Event 12: Rainer Kempe Eliminated by Jason Koon

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Level 17: 2,500/5,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 38 of 395

Jason Koon

In a tale of the “rich get richer”, Jason Koon moved his stack even further out front at the expense of Super High Roller third place finisher Rainer Kempe.

We caught the backend of the action but the end result was Kempe packing up his bag to leave with the board out. As told by Eddy Sabat, there was an all in by Kempe followed by a call when Koon woke up with AsAh in the big blind.

Kempe was dominated with 4s4h and the board ran TcTh3h7sKh to send him out. The hand pushed Koon to new heights and he’s closing on 800,000 with 7.9 million chips in play.

Jason Koon – 690,000 (138 bb)

Event 17: Big Money, One Day Tournament Tomorrow — $500K Guaranteed

If you miss your seat at a Big 4 final table, that does not mean you have to leave the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open without one more shot at a huge payout.

Running on Tuesday in the ballroom, Event 17 is a $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with a healthy $500,000 guaranteed prize pool and it will play out in one day.

A great chance to pad the bankroll before the series comes to an end.

The first eight levels will run 30 minutes then switch to 40-minutes from Level 9 until the final table is formed. Those levels will last 60 minutes apiece and move to 30 minutes when the tournament is heads up for the title.

The tournament kicks off at noon on Tuesday with late registration and unlimited re-entries available until the start of Level 12. They will close the registration desk at 7:10 p.m. after the 40-minute dinner break.

A great way to close out the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, with a huge prize pool and big payouts.

  • $500,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
  • Players begin with 15,000 in chips
  • Levels 1-8 last 30 minutes; Levels 9+ last 40 minutes
  • Final table levels last 60 minutes; Heads up Levels last 30 minutes

Event 12: Barry Hutter Up Top

$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Level 17: 2,500/5,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 44 of 395

Barry Hutter

Players are back in their seats and everyone else is chasing Barry Hutter atop the counts. He’s on the verge of topping 500,000 with Darryl Ronconi not far behind.

Nigel Murray continues to ride a big stack and 2015 WSOP Ladies Champ Jackie Scott is having a good day as well.

Top ten stacks:
Barry Hutter – 490,000 (98 bb)
Darryl Ronconi – 470,000 (94 bb)
Jackie Scott – 340,000 (68 bb)
Nigel Murray – 325,000 (65 bb)
Jeremy White – 320,000 (64 bb)
Jason Koon – 300,000 (60 bb)
Jack Duong – 295,000 (59 bb)
Alberto Rodriguez – 250,000 (50 bb)
Aaron Massey – 248,000 (50 bb)
Tom Thomas – 240,000 (48 bb)

Event 12: Nobuo Tarui Eliminated by Cate Hall on the Bubble

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Level 16: 2,000/4,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 52 of 395

Nobuo Tarui

The Freeze-out hit 53 players midway through Level 16 and tournament staff paused the action. Once all hands were complete, hand-for-hand instructions were given and they began the process of making the money with one more elimination.

And it did not take long.

On the first hand, Nobuo Tarui open-shoved for 27,500 from middle position and Cate Hall moved all in over the top for 66,000 from the button. The blinds released and Tarui was at risk.

Tarui: 4h4c
Hall: AdQh

Tarui was ahead but Hall took over on the AcTd7h flop. Tarui was out of his seat and took the lonely walk after the 8s turn and Jc river. The rest of the field hit the money and the pace should pick up.

Cate Hall – 120,000 (30 bb)
Nobuo Tarui – Eliminated in 53rd place

Event 12: Happy Birthday Jason Koon

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Level 16: 2,000/4,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 58 of 395

Jason Koon

Jason Koon can get comfortable in his seat today. His table will not break and he’ll only move once they hit the three-table redraw hours from now. The reigning SHRPO Champion began the day with 220,500 but has moved it to 375,000 in early action so there won’t be any hurry.

Not a bad way to spend his birthday. Spinning up a top stack in another Big 4 tournament with the possibility of additional $200,000 in his bankroll.

Happy Birthday, sir. May it be a productive and profitable day.

Event 12: Wong and Icaza Out; (Gloria) Jackson and Chirumamilla Double

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Level 15: 1,500/3,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 67 of 395

Gloria Jackson

We saw a lot of action at the start of play today, players looking for doubles as the money bubble gets closer.

Javier Icaza moved all in for his short 13,500 stack and Grayson Ramage called to put him at risk. Icaza was in trouble with Ac5c against Ah9s but hit the 5h on the flop. The unkind 9h was put out on the turn and he was sent out early.

Jerry Wong was sitting nearby and hit the rail at the same time.

On Table 48, Pedro Idrogo opened to 6,000 and Gloria Jackson called in the big blind with 7,000 behind. She put those in the middle after the 9c6s3c flop and Idrogo called.

Jackson: 7h6c
Idrogo: AcKd

The 5s turn and 3s river were good for Jackson’s double up. In the meantime, her husband David Jackson is cruising along deep in the event as well.

The third big hand in early action saw Raja Chirumamilla open/shove for 60,500 and Joe McKeehen called after asking for a count. The rest of the table released and the hands were tabled.

Chirumamilla: AsKd
McKeehen: TdTs

Chirumamilla needed to win the race to stay in the game and he hit the Ah8h8d flop. The Qc turn and 8s river changed nothing to move Chirumamilla up and knock McKeehen down to a short stack.

Grayson Ramage – 201,000 (67 bb)
Gloria Jackson – 290,500 (97 bb)
Raja Chirumamilla – 124,000 (41 bb)

Event 12: Murray Returns as Freeze-Out Leader

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)

Level 15: 1,500/3,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 69 of 395

Nigel Murray returns with the Day 2 chip lead

Big 4 Freeze-Out players made the grind through 14 levels last night and only 69 of the starting 395 players are still around with a chance at the title. They are all aiming for a piece of the $1,000,000 prize pool and the top payout of more than $200,000.

Seminole Hard Rock Poker regular Nigel Murray returns with the lead and the only player over 300,000. The top ten is full of tough players including 2015 WSOP Ladies Champion Jacquelyn Scott, Seminole Hard Rock Poker team member Faraz Jaka, 2016 SHRPO Champion Jason Koon, and former HPT Player of the Year Aaron Massey going for a Big 4 final table in back-to-back years.

They still have a little work to get done this afternoon before they begin cashing checks. Of those 69 returning players, only 52 will walk away with some money and we should hit the bubble before too long.

It will be another long day for the Freeze-Out players. They need to whittle the field down to the final table before their night will be complete. Those nine players will return tomorrow to play out the final table in the Hard Rock Live Arena in front of the Poker Night in America cameras.

Cards go back in the air at noon and we will track all of their action.

Top ten returning stacks:

  1. Nigel Murray – 341,000 (114 bb)
  2. Ryan McKnight – 281,000 (94 bb)
  3. Tom Thomas – 243,000 (81 bb)
  4. Paul Domb – 240,500 (80 bb)
  5. Jaquelyn Scott – 228,500 (76 bb)
  6. Aaron Massey – 221,000 (74 bb)
  7. Jason Koon – 220,500 (74 bb)
  8. Jack Duong – 206,500 (69 bb)
  9. Grayson Ramage – 186,000 (62 bb)
  10. Faraz Jaka – 178,500 (60 bb)

Marvin Rettenmaier, Big 4 High Roller defending champ

The last of the Big 4 events is set to kick off and it will be a big one. The High Roller event will have a smaller field but not one lacking for talent.

The $25,500 buy-in tournament has a $2 Million Guarantee, second biggest of the series behind only the Championship, and it will attract some of the best players in the world. Last year’s champion, two-time WPT champ Marvin Rettenmaier, had to go through 105 entries to get to the title including a tough, long final table.

We expect Rettenmaier back to defend and a room full of great poker.

Players will start with 100,000 stacks and play 40-minute levels throughout the opening day. Those levels will switch to 60 minutes on the final table tomorrow afternoon. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 10 at 7:30 p.m. following the dinner break. They are scheduled to play down to the final table eight to be played out tomorrow in the Hard Rock Live Arena in front of the live-streamed cameras.

It is a busy day in SHRPO land and the High Roller will push up big numbers.
