David Prociak made the drive from Central Florida down to South Florida on Wednesday afternoon in order to be able to play the last week of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open.
He kicked off the start to his series on the right foot. Prociak bested a field of 153 to take home $8,891 and the title in a four-way chop of the $360 Pot Limit Omaha.
“It feels good man,” said Prociak. “it feels good to score here. It’s a good start.”
As the preliminary events begin to wind down, more players are starting to get into town for some of the bigger buy-in events that will get underway soon. Prociak plans to be here for the rest of the series and hopes that this won’t be his only score of the series.
Away from the table, Prociak is a businessman that has started to put in more time on the felt over the last year.
“I’m a business owner. I sell shoes,” said Prociak. “I’ve been playing poker a lot. I started playing live poker last year. I play a lot of cash PLO, but I’ve started playing more tournaments.”
Coming into the final table, Prociak was one of the shorter stacks, but after a few hands went his way, he quickly built a stack and was the chip leader.
Once he took that lead, he never looked back and rode that lead all the way to the title.
“In PLO, I like to try to play crazy and win every hand,” said Prociak about his playing style. “Especially in tournaments.”
When the table started five-handed play, it was past 4 a.m. and the table began to talk about a deal. After some miscommunication about the terms of the deal, the cards got back in the air.
Bradley Young was eliminated in fifth place and then the chop talks began again. Once everybody agreed on the number, Prociak officially took home the title just a couple hours before the sun was scheduled to rise.
“I normally don’t chop,” Prociak told the other players after the chop was agreed on. “But I’m exhausted.”
