Yousef Nassr is the newest winner at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open, defeating a field of 54 entries to win Event 8. Nassr’s win came in the $360 six-max event, earning him $4,717 and the trophy in a heads-up deal with Alberto Silva.

Nassr is a 27-year-old tournament pro from Haines City, Florida, which is just southwest of Orlando. He’s been playing the game professionally for several years, primarily sticking to online tournaments. In his time away from the tables, he’s an avid soccer player and fan.

The champ almost didn’t make it to this event in the first place. If he wasn’t the very last player into the field, he was one of them, arriving to the tables just as late registration closed. A couple hours later, he was the chip leader at the final table left in the room, sitting pretty with more than 100 big blinds. “It was pretty smooth sailing,” he said about his path to victory from that point forward.

Nassr eliminated three of his final five opponents, setting up a heads-up duel with Silva, a crafty Argentine. Rather than play it out, though, Nassr offered a nearly even chop, a generous offer considering his chip lead at the time. Silva agreed, the two men shook hands, and Nassr sat down to pose for photos with his new trophy.

This result is the largest of Nassr’s live tournament career, bringing his total lifetime earnings to just over $20,000.
