December 30, 2018

The final event of the 2018 Fun in the Sun Poker Open took place on Sunday. The $560 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Main Event drew 221 entries and generated a prize pool of $110,500, easily surpassing the $75,000 guarantee. Outlasting the field was Alcides Gomez, winning the tournament outright for $26,348.

Gomez scored several eliminations with two tables remaining and brought a sizable chip lead into the final table. He never relinquished it, going wire-to-wire to win his first Seminole Hard Rock Trophy.

It was also a bit of redemption for Gomez. Last year, he final tabled this same event and finished 10th. However, this time around it was a much different story.

“I’ve had a few deep runs in the trophy events before,” said Gomez, “But I usually got sucked out on. It’s nice to finally win one.”
