Ben Tollerene

Day 1 was supposed to end after Level 14, but the six finalists were not interested in returning tomorrow on the bubble. Level 15 came and went without much action until the very last hand of the level.

With Ben Tollerene down to just a few big blinds, the decision was made to play another two orbits to see if he would either run it up or succumb. He succumbed, as it turned out.

On the first hand of Level 16, Tollerene moved all in for 34,000 in the cutoff, Adrian Mateos called in the small blind, and Nick Petrangelo defended his big blind.

The two live players checked it down as the board ran out Kd6d6c7d6s.

Tollerene: QhJs
Mateos: Jh7c
Petrangelo: 5h7h

Mateos and Petrangelo had the same hand, sixes full of sevens. They split the pot, chopping up Tollerene’s chips to send him out on the bubble.

The five remaining players crossed into the money with that knockout, and they bagged up their chips for the night.

A recap of the day’s action will be published shortly.

Ben Tollerene – Eliminated

Event 13: Paul Balzano – 7th Place ($7,651)

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

                                                       Paul Balzano – 6th Place

Ari Engel raised to 37,000 from middle position, Michael Pearson called from the cutoff, and Paul Balzano called from the big blind.

They checked to the turn of a 10s8h5h2s board where Balzano shoved for 125,000. Engel folded, and Pearson thought about it for about 45 seconds before he called.

Balzano: Kh6h
Pearson: AdKd

Pearson was ahead against Balzano’s flush draw.

The river was the 3c, no help to Balzano, ending his tournament in seventh place for $7,651.

Michael Pearson – 705,000 (44 bb)
Paul Balzano – Eliminated

Adrian Mateos

David Peters opened the cutoff to 22,000, and Ben Tollerene called on the button. From the big blind, Adrian Mateos squeezed in a three-bet to 95,000. Peters folded, but Tollerene called to proceed heads-up.

The flop was Qc6c4d. Mateos continued for 54,000, Tollerene raised all in for 210,000 effective, and Mateos called to put himself at risk.

Tollerene: Ah4h
Mateos: KdKc

Mateos’ overpair had him in good position to double up, and he did just that. The 7h turn and 5h river completed the board with blanks, giving Mateos a double-up.

Tollerene was on fumes as Level 15 concluded.

Adrian Mateos – 643,000 (64 bb)
Ben Tollerene – 36,000 (4 bb)

Level 15: 5,000/10,000 with a 1,000 ante

Most of the pots in this level have been small and lightly contested, but that was not the case for this one.

It began with Ben Tollerene opening to 20,000 in middle position, and Justin Bonomo three-bet to 53,000 in the cutoff. Tollerene called.

The flop was Ks8h7d. Tollerene checked, Bonomo continued for 65,000, and Tollerene called. That betting process repeated on the 8c turn, though the amount is unknown. Both players checked through the Qc river.

Tollerene showed Kc4c for a pair of kings but Bonomo had that beat. He turned over AsAd to win the substantial pot with aces up. He appears to have moved into the chip lead with that pot.

Justin Bonomo – 675,000 (68 bb)
Ben Tollerene – 435,000 (44 bb)

Fourteen levels wasn’t enough to reach the money, so the final six players have elected to play one more level tonight to try to get over the hump. Six players remain, and only five will finish in the money.

Level 15 is under way, and play will be halted at the end of this level or when one player is eliminated, whichever comes first.
