Tournament Director Tony Burns on “The Big 4”

The hijack made it 1,500, Diana Shirey three-bet to 4,500 and Seminole Hard Rock Poker team member Jared Jaffee four-bet to 10,6000. Shirey called.

The flop came 10h7s5h Jaffee shoved 13,950, and Shirey called. Jaffee turned over 8h8s and needed to get lucky against Shirey’s 10c9h.

The board ran out 2c, 9c giving Shirey two-pair eliminating Jaffee from today’s 1B field.

A player in middle position opened to 1,200, David Diaz called from the button as did John Dubois in the big blind.

The flop came 7c6s2d, Dubois checked, the original raiser bet 3,000, and Lefty called. When it got back to Dubois he three-bet shoved 8,850 and Lefty called.

Dubois turned over 5h2h and had a slight lead over Diaz’s 5s4s. The board ran out running deuces 2c, 2s giving Dubois quads.

The very next hand David Diaz opened to 1,200 from the cutoff, Dan O’Brien called on the button, and John Dubois called from the small blind. The big blind three-bet to 5,000 and all three players called.

The flop came Ah4s3c the blinds checked to Diaz who bet 3,800 and O’Brien called. Both players checked the Qd on the turn. The 7s hit the river and Diaz bet 14,000. O’Brien thought a while before eventually folding.

Clements turned over JhJc and was behind Volpe’s KcQc. The 10d hit the river and Volpe’s higher two-pair secured him the double.

Jason Koon who is our reigning champion, moved all in for 27,000 on a flop of 7s4d3c and Jonathan Jaffe called. Koon turned over QhQc and was in good shape against Jaffe’s AhKc.

The board ran out 10c, 6d and Koon’s pocket queens held up keeping him in contention to defend his title.
