Jim Gilbert opened to 125,000 from the cutoff and Pavel Plesuv three-bet to 400,000 from the button. James Rann in the small blind thought it out, used a time chip, and four-bet to 1,100,000. Gilbert folded and Plesuv moved all in for 4,405,000.

Rann cut out some chips, used another time chip, and called for 3,775,000 total.

It was one of those “classic” races and Rann needed to improve to double up. The board ran out and Plesuv’s queens held to end the former chip leader out in nineth place.
