Event 17: It’s Been…Fun???

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 14: 1,200/2,400

As serious as tournament poker has become, tonight’s Event 17 has been incredibly refreshing to watch.  The players have actually been having a great time at the table.  Between Nick Palma’s Twitter advice and  being vocal about his desire for the trophy and “Miami” John Cernuto’s advice on how to tell a person they’re not too good, it’s been some quality entertainment tonight.  Yuval Bronshtein even noted how much more fun everyone’s been having this evening with some great chatter and a few drinks.

Everyone must be having a great time because no one’s gone home for nearly a half-hour as we are still at 16 players remaining here in Event 17.

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 13: 1,000/2,000

After a brisk pace of eliminations before the final two tables, things have slowed down somewhat.  We have lost two players so far as Michael Wang fell in 18th place shortly after the new tables were set and Matthew Brady was just eliminated in 17th place.  Both pick up $550 for their play this evening.

Devon Shalmi is still in front with 275,000 chips as we are now down to 16 players left.

Event 17: Bubble Bursts

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 12: 800/1,600

Robert “Car Wash” Williams has put the field in the money taking out Eitan Elbaz-Bahar.  Williams bet 8,000 and Elbaz-Bahar put his last 13,000 into the pot and after a pause for the other tables to finish, the cards were turned up.

Williams: KdKh5s6s
Elbaz-Bahar: AcAdQh3c

Williams was behind but the board ran out 6d8c3h5hJh giving him two pair and sending Elbaz-Bahar to the rail.

We’re now in the money and down to our last two tables in Event 12.

Event 16: Final 14 Players

$1,100 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-out)
Level 17: 1,500/3,000/500 Ante

With the board showing 8d7h2sJs on the turn, Nikolai Sears checked, and Jamie Avila bet 129,000, leaving himself just 10,000 behind. Sears thought for a few moments before moving all in with a similar stack, and Avila called off his last 10,000 with Qs8s for a pair of eights with a spade flush draw. Sears turned over AhJh for a pair of jacks.

The river card was the Qc, and Avila made two pair, queens and eights, to win the pot. Their chip stacks were counted down, and they both had exactly 137,000 — Avila doubled up while Sears was eliminated.

Jamie Avila  –  300,000+  (100+ bb)
Nikolai Sears  –  Eliminated in 18th Place  ($2,672)

A few minutes later, after a flop of Js10h9c, Philip Consolo was all in with Qh9h for a pair of nines with an open-ended straight draw, but he needed to improve to stay alive against Nacho Barbero’s QcJc — pair of jacks with the same straight draw.

The turn was the 7d, the river was the 7h, and Barbero won the pot with two pair, jacks and sevens, to eliminate Consolo from the tournament.

Nacho Barbero  –  205,000
Philip Consolo  –  Eliminated in 17th Place  ($2,672)

Consolo actually won Event 8 earlier this series, which was also a six-max event, and he had been hoping to win both six-max events to become the undisputed six-max champion of the Seminole Hard Rock. But he’s going to have to share that unofficial title with the winner of this event.

There was a redraw for random seats at the final three tables (18 players), and the bustouts have been coming quickly since then. Here is the current lineup at the tables, along with the recent eliminations:

Level 16 comes to an end, and the players take a 15-minute break while the black (100) chips are colored up off the tables.

However, there is one hand still in action, with Javier Zarco and Stuart Paterson battling over a sizable pot on a board of Kc5h2c5c7c. Zarco had bet 52,500 from the small blind, and Paterson tanked for a while under the gun before he folded.

Zarco showed QhJh for a queen-high bluff as he took the pot.

Stuart Paterson  –  167,500  (56 bb)

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 10: 500/1,000

Devon Shalmi just won a three-way pot knocking out two players including Robert Mizrachi. Shalmi managed to fade two flush draws to have his queens and sevens hold up sending Mizrachi out the door. Shalmi moved up to 176,100 and continues on as one of the tourament chip leaders.

We’re now down to 26 players remaining as we close in on the money bubble at 18 players.
