Recap:

Event 3 was a one-day event that attracted 49 entries, and the final five would finish in the money. When the field reached the final five, they battled a surprisingly long time, with players taking turns as to who was the chipleader and who was the short stack.

When it finally got down to the final three, two were nearly even in chips and a deal was struck to award the title to chipleader Matt Silva. Second place went to Joel Harwood (father of famous poker player Loni Harwood), who had about a single big blind more in his stack than Michelle Shah, who finished third.

The shortest stack during five-handed play belonged to Krystal Harris, who was knocked down to just two big blinds, and then tripled up on the next hand when she woke up with pocket aces, flopped a set, and rivered quads. For a little while it looked like Harris would mount a full comeback, but it was short-lived, and she was eliminated about 20 minutes later in fifth place.

Harris was followed to the rail by Evan Shaughnessy, who got it all in after the flop with a pair of tens against Silva’s pair of deuces and gutshot straight draw. The turn improved Shaughnessy to a set of eights, and only a king could keep him from doubling up. Even though he had one of the kings in his hand, Shaughnessy watched as the Ks hit the river to complete Silva’s straight, ending the tournament for Shaughnessy in fourth place.

At that point, Silva held 43.1% of the chips in play, and a three-way deal was struck. As chipleader, Silva was awarded the title, the Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open” trophy, and a custom-framed winner’s photo courtesy of Image Masters.

This victory is particularly sweet for Silva because just last month he finished second in Event 9 of the Fall DeepStack Poker Series at the Seminole Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, FL. When a deal was struck in that event, Silva was second in chips by a single big blind, and missed out on the guitar trophy. This time, Silva’s lead was substantial enough that there was no doubt.

Silva has already locked up a chip stack for Day 2 of Event 1, winning this title on his day off, though he is heading home to Atlanta for Thanksgiving and will have to miss the Championship Event next weekend.

Congratulations to Matt Silva!

Event 3: Evan Shaughnessy Out in 4th Place ($1,911)

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 17: 2,500/5,000

Evan Shaughnessy
4th Place:  Evan Shaughnessy  ($1,911)

With four players remaining, Evan Shaughnessy was the short stack when he got it all in on a flop of Jh10c2s against chipleader Matt Silva. Here were their cards:

Matt Silva:  AsQs6h2d  (pair of 2s, gutshot straight draw)
Evan Shaughnessy:  Kh10s8s8h  (pair of 10s)

The turn was the 8c, improving Shaughnessy to a set of eights, but the river card was — the Ks. Silva rivered an ace-high straight to win the pot and eliminate Shaughnessy in fourth place.

With three players remaining, they decided to discuss a potential chop. Here are their official chip counts:

1.  Matt Silva  –  211,000  (42 bb)
2.  Joel Harwood  –  142,500  (29 bb)
3.  Michelle Shah  –  136,000  (27 bb)

Event 3: Krystal Harris Out in 5th Place ($1,470)

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 17: 2,500/5,000

Krystal Harris
5th Place:  Krystal Harris  ($1,470)

Krystal Harris was knocked down to just 9,000 in chips, trying to make a comeback from three big blinds. She tripled up in her next hand with quad aces, and then she treaded water for a while.

After a flop of Ks8d4d, Harris got it all in against Matthew Silva. Here were their hands:

Matthew Silva:  10c10d7d6d  (pocket 10s, flush draw, gutshot straight draw)
Krystal Harris:  AsJhJd5s  (pocket jacks)

The turn was the 9s, the river was the Qd, and Silva made a diamond flush to win the pot and eliminate Harris in fifth place.

Here are the approximate counts for the final four players:

Seat 1.  Evan Shaughnessy  –  55,000  (11 bb)
Seat 2.  Michelle Shah  –  58,000  (12 bb)
Seat 4.  Matthew Silva  –  210,000  (42 bb)

Event 3: Can Quad Aces Kick Off a Comeback for Krystal Harris?

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 16: 2,000/4,000

Krystal Harris
Krystal Harris

Krystal Harris was knocked down to just 9,000 in chips after Matthew Silva made a flush on her — down to just three big blinds.

The next hand, Michelle Shah raised from the cutoff to 9,000, Harris called all in from the button, and Joel Harwood called from the big blind.

The flop came Ad10c4d, Harwood checked, Shah bet, and Harwood folded. Shah showed Qs10d5d3s for a pair of tens with a diamond flush draw and a gutshot straight draw. Harris turned over AsAhJd3c for a set of aces, and she needed it to hold to stay alive.

The turn was the 8s, the river was the Ac, and Harris made quad aces to win the pot and triple up to 27,000 in chips.

Harris has been holding on since then, staying alive but unable to build up much more momentum.

Here are the approximate chip counts halfway thru Level 16:

Seat 1.  Evan Shaughnessy  –  115,000  (29 bb)
Seat 2.  Michelle Shah  –  66,000  (17 bb)
Seat 3.  Krystal Harris  –  30,000  (8 bb)
Seat 4.  Matthew Silva  –  205,000  (51 bb)
Seat 5.  Joel Harwood  –  60,000  (15 bb)

4th:  $1,911
5th:  $1,470

Event 3: Marc Knopf Bubbles; Final 5 in the Money!

$350 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Level 15:  1,500/3,000

Marc Knopf
Unfortunate Bubble Finisher Marc Knopf

With six players remaining (and only five finishing in the money), Marc Knopf got it all in with KhJs10h5s, and he needed to improve to stay alive against Joel Harwood’s AhAc8s7d. The board came 6d2d2s10s7c, and Knopf’s pair of jacks couldn’t catch up to Harwood’s aces. Knopf was knocked out in sixth place to burst the Money Bubble.

You may not know Joel Harwood, but if you’re a poker fan you almost certainly know his daughter, Loni Harwood, a multiple WSOP bracelet winner with more than $1.6 million in live career earnings. Joel is no slouch either, as he has two top-three finishes in Omaha events here at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in 2015 alone.
