Level 15:  1,500/2,500/500 ante

After a limp and a raise, Robert ‘Carwash’ Williams called from the cutoff, only to have the small blind in seat 8 shove for ~85k.  The limper and raiser folded, then Carwash shoved his last 38,500 into the pot.

Seat 8: [7s7h]

Carwash: [6d3d]

Board: 8s2d2s5d9d

Carwash back-doored a flush to come from behind and more than double up.  He chipped up to about 110k.

The last few hands are playing out now and then they will bag & tag the chips for the night.

Hany Ayoub’s got 315k as they start the last level of the night.

Carlos Arabitg

Carlos Arabitg (pictured above) is close behind with ~300k.

Anything can happen during this final level, so that $500 chip leader bonus is still up for grabs.

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year point leader Angel Vu got all-in on the river with the board showing Th3d2h7h8d.  Unfortunately for Angel, Frank Navin (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) held 6h5h for the turned flush.

Angel mucked her hand and headed out.  Frank, a self-professed “PLO degenerate,” chipped up to about 220k.

We’ll be seeing a lot more of Angel during this series since she’s chasing points to try to stay atop the POY leaderboard.  At the end of this series, the POY will receive a prize package valued at over $30,000 that features entries and casino-based incentives for Seminole Hard Rock Poker’s most prestigious poker events throughout the following year including:

Event 1: Ayoub Takes Lead

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 12:  800/1,600/200 ante

During the previous level:

Three players check the turn with a board showing Kh7s5s9c.  The dealer delivers the Qs on the river, making a flush possible.  Seat 4 checked, seat 6 checked, then Hany Ayoub (cutoff) fired 12k.

Hany Ayoub

After some thought, seat 4 called and seat 6 folded.  “You got the flush?” asked seat 4.  “No,” replied Ayoub, as he rolled over 9s9h for a set.  Seat 4 mucked and the Miami businessman raked the pot.

He’s now up to ~200k and leading Flight B with four levels left to play.

The chip leader at the end of each starting flight earns a $500 bonus, so this is when the battle for the bonus begins in earnest.

In addition to the opening day of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino also played host to the USA/Brazil Beach Soccer Challenge tonight. The event was open to the public and the match between the USA and Brazil was surrounded by lively crowds in the stands, including a VIP area. The playing surface was made of 2.4 million pounds of sand transported from Central Florida. The playing area was much smaller than a normal soccer field as you can see, but that meant there was a lot of scoring in the match.

There was also a DJ stage and open air bar along with food trucks, which made for a fun event on property for poker players. Daniel Buzgon was among the spectators in the crowd. This is just one of the many events that makes coming to #SHRPO fun for players from all over the world.  At the end of regulation Brazil topped USA 8-7 in a close match that saw a combined 32 shots on goal. The match will broadcast nationally on NBC Sports Network on Tuesday, September 9 at 7 p.m. ET.

Scroll down below for photos of the sights and atmosphere that made this fun event a great way to kick off the festivities that will be surrounding the SHRPO tournament series.

Event 1: Rodriguez Sinks Two On River

$350 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 10:  500/1,000/100 ante

Before the blinds went up:

With a flop of 8x6x5x, two short stacks got all their chips in the  middle against Christian Rodriguez (Boynton Beach, FL).

Christian Rodriguez

The player in seat 9 held pocket Jacks, the lady in seat 7 had pocket 9s, and Christian had them both beat with pocket 5s for set.

That all changed with the 7x on the turn, which gave the lady a straight.   Then another 8x came on the river, giving Christian a full boat and sending both opponents packing.

With that pot, Christian chipped up to about 85k.
