Massive field more than doubles $150,000 guarantee, McKoy earns $49,755 following four-way chop.

Steve McKoy won the first of seven Deep Stack Series primary events Monday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The $350 buy-in opener enjoyed a massive turnout as 1,075 entries ponied up the entry fee for a shot at South Florida glory. Following two opening flights and two additional play down days, McKoy left victorious in a four-way chop. He earned $49,755 while Ronald Campillo, who won the $350 Escalator Series event earlier this year, pocketed $39,200, Michael Merisier $35,750 and Jacob Snider $35,710.

Recognized as a Deep Stack event, Event 1 saw its $150,000 guarantee more than doubled as the prize pool topped out at $322,500. In addition to the nearly $50,000 score, McKoy went home with a $1,650 Deep Stack Series Event 4 seat courtesy of the Seminole Hard Rock.

The tournament featured three starting flights and permitted late registration until the start of Day 2. The guarantee was exceeded during Flight B and Flight C blew the doors off the poker room as nearly 500 additional entries took to the felt. By the time Day 2 began, 21 additional players paid the $350 buy-in and took their seats with six big blinds and a dream.

Notables such as reigning Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year Ory Hen (23rd), Lou Stadler (29th) SHRP team members Jessica Dawley (42nd) and Darryl Fish (86th) Zoltan Czinkota (87th) and Evan Teitelbaum (89th) were among those to finish in the money.

With 60- and 90-minute levels, a single play down proved to not be enough. The final nine returned Monday to decide the event’s outcome. McKoy, who’s laid claim to tournament victories both at the Seminole Hard Rock and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, earned his fifth major victory and moved over $650,000 in career tournament earnings. He is 29 years old and resides in Coral Springs.

In addition to Event 1, the Deep Stack Series is headlined by the $560 buy-in, $150,000 guaranteed Deeper Stack event and the $1,650 buy-in, $300,000 guaranteed Deepest Stack event. The full tournament schedule and structure sheets are available on SHRPO.com.
