January 15, 2018
Event 8 of the 2018 Lucky Hearts Poker Open was a $570 8-Max Double Black Chip Bounty (Re-Entry) tournament. A total of 208 entries generated a prize pool of $104,000. Of that total, $41,600 was set aside for bounties and the remaining $62,400 made up the payouts for the top 26 finishers.
More than fifteen hours after the tournament began, Drew Johnson outlasted the field for a first-place prize of $14,470.
When the field was down to the official final table of eight players, Johnson was the shortest stack of the bunch. Flying mainly under the radar while Ory Hen held the chip lead for a majority of the final table, Johnson scored a key double with three players left. His queen-five bested Hen’s ace-eight and, combined with Hen’s elimination shortly thereafter, gave Johnson the chip lead beginning heads-up play.
After about a half hour of heads-up action, Johnson bested Jim Engelbrecht to win the tournament and his first SHRP trophy.
Originally from Bridgewater, New Jersey, Johnson now resides in Fort Lauderdale. His win today marked his sixth major series cash at the Seminole Hard Rock and increased his career tournament winnings to nearly $75,000.
