Chipleader Howard Bregman

Flight C comes to an end with 79 players remaining from a field of 484, and the chipleader is Howard Bregman, who bagged up 377,500 (94 big blinds).

The full list of official chip counts will be posted later tonight, but in the meantime, here is an unofficial look at the top of the leaderboard:

1.  Howard Bregman  –  377,500  (94 bb)
2.  Charles Odenz  –  341,000  (85 bb)
3.  Brett Bader  –  324,500  (81 bb)

Brett Bader is the reigning Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year, and he bagged up a big stack heading to Day 2 of this first event.

There will be a total of six starting flights for this event, and after the first three flights there are 180 survivors from a field of 1,153. The average chip stack of the survivors is about 128,000 (32 big blinds).

Event 1 Flight D: Gaining on the Guarantee

$600 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 1: 100/100

Event 1 hit the midpoint of the tournament earlier today when registration closed on Flight C. Now we are ready to load another big crowd for Flight D, the fourth of six starting flights.

The combined total of entries sits at 1,153 to leave the tournament only 734 away from the prize pool crossing the $1,000,000 mark. Flight D will push the count close to that number this evening but more likely the Guarantee will be surpassed very early tomorrow in Flight E.

Players start with 20,000 stacks and Day 1 levels run 30 minutes apiece, increasing to 40 minutes on Day 2. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 10:30 pm along with unlimited re-entries. Flight D will come to an end after Level 14 and survivors will their chips sometime around 1:30 am.

The weekend is here, time for some big money.

  • $1,000,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool
  • Players begin with 20,000 in chips
  • Single ante will be paid from the big blind for the entire table
  • Day 1 levels last 30 minutes; Day 2 levels last 40 minutes
  • Late registration/re-entry available until start of Level 9
  • Day 1 will end after Level 14 or Tournament Director discretion

Howard Bregman

The chip lead continues to be a volatile position and we have a new player up top. Howard Bregman leads the way with 401,000 after the last break followed by Charles Odenz with 315,000 and Dan Suied with 279,000.

Flight C players have three more levels to catch them or run up a nice stack for the Day 2 return on Sunday.

Dan Suied

We previously mentioned former SHRPO winner Dan Suied earlier after he tussled with Michael Newman. That bullet did not go well but the second might be the charm.

Suied built his new 20,000 stack up as registration closed to come back to 59,000. Now it’s a bit more.

We caught the action after his big hand was complete but the table gave a rundown. Suied was in a three-way pot with the flop reading 9s6h3h and all the chips went in with Suied owning the biggest stack.

He flopped top pair with a flush draw holding Jh9h but the hearts were no good against one opponent’s Ah8h. The other player had his top pair beat with 9c3c for two pair and Suied needed to catch.

The Ks turn changed nothing but Suied found a better two pair on the Js river for the double knockout.

“Thank god the heart didn’t come,” Suied joked.

It was a huge pot and he is up to 265,000 with only a few levels remaining in the day.

Event 1 Flight C: Registration Closed with 484 Entries

Level 10: 600/1,200 with a 1,200 ante
Flight C Entries: 484 (Total Entries: 1,153)

The math is complete and Flight C officially drew 484 entries to push the combined total for Event 1 up to 1,153. That leaves the field on 734 entries away from crossing the $1,000,000 prize pool with three full flights remaining.

It should get there early tomorrow afternoon and they will start piling it higher.

Event 1 Flight C: Craig Varnell Leads After Second Break

$600 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 9: 500/1,000 with a 1,000 ante

Craig Varnell

Action is back underway with an unofficial 484 entries showing for Flight C creating the biggest session so far. We will post the numbers once the accounting is complete and see where we are in relation to the $1,000,000 Guarantee.

The big stack we saw on break belongs to none other than Craig Varnell. He’s up to 183,900 more than halfway through the day with first break leader Noel Atherley sitting in second at 158,000.

Varnell has six titles to his credit and they are solid gold. He won a WSOP Circuit ring in 2014, followed that up with a WPT500 Las Vegas title in 2015, and added an EPT $5K Six-Max win later that year.

He won a Deep Stack Extravaganza event in 2016, took a year off trophies in 2017, then won his first WSOP bracelet in 2018.  Capping off a Triple Crown/Grand Slam kind of thing in his young career, Varnell put his name on the WPT Champions Cup for the first time this summer.

Event 1 Flight C: Last Chance to Register

Level 8: 400/800 with a 800 ante
Flight C Entries: 477 (Total Entries: 1,146)

The second break is underway leaving less than 15 minutes for players to jump into Flight C. We should pick up a few more along the way to push our total up at the halfway point.

A short walk through the field found one massive stack but we’ll have to wait until they return to identify out leader.

Michael Newman

Two former SHRP champions went heads-up with the clock ticking down to the close of registration. With the board reading KdQd6d3c, Dan Suied bet 3,000 and Michael Newman shoved over the top for 20,000. Suied dropped the hand but stayed in the game with 18,000 while Newman moved up to 35,000.

Suied picked up his first trophy here during the 2014 SHRPO opening tournament, a nice score for someone who primarily plays in the cash room.

Newman owns five SHRP trophies, tied for second for all-time wins, including the 2017 RRPO Championship title. On top of the Hollywood wins, he also picked up a WSOP Circuit ring a few miles up the road with our friends in Coconut Creek.
