Event 1 Flight D: David Shmuel Wins it With Second Pair

There was about 4,000 in the pot on the turn with a board of Td8h2s4d. David Shmuel was on the button and heads-up with his lone opponent in middle position.

Middle position checked and Shmuel checked behind. The river was the 7c. Middle position bet 2,500 and Shmuel thought for a little while before calling.

“Two fives,” said middle position.

Shmuel quickly tables 8s6h and wins the pot with second pair.

The fourth flight of the $360 deep stack is shaping up to be the biggest yet. There are already 184 entries towards the end of the second level.

With registration open until the start of level 9, there is still plenty of time to surpass the 419 entries in Day 1C.

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner and Season XV WPT Player of the Year Ben Zamani is one of the several notables in the field thus far.

He’s joined by Nancy Birnbaum, David Shmuel, Sean Troha, Yagui Nassa, Dimitry Agrachov and yesterday’s ninth place finisher in the $360 Omaha hi-lo, Daniel Brown.

While we were watching Ido Ashkenazi and Lloyd Gunther battle for the Flight C chip lead, Justin Harvell went ahead and blew past both of them.

The SHRP regular bagged up 362,000 to put him among the Day 2 leaders while Gunther finished with 316,000 and Ashkenazi with 285,500.

Flight C is winding down and we are looking at nine tables remaining with two big stacks at the same one. Lloyd Gunther is sitting with 270,000 while Ido Ashkenazi sits two seats to his left with another big stack.

They will battle it over this last level and one of them looks like they’ll bag the Flight C lead.

Event 1 Flight D: Fourth Flight to Fly

Three flights are locked down for the $1,000,000 Guarantee RRPO opener and we are ready to get the fourth one underway. There are a combined 1,040 entries already in the game and Flight D will get us to the halfway point with huge crowds expected on Friday and Saturday.

Event 1 players will sit down to 20,000 starting stacks and all opening flight levels last 30 minutes. Late registration and re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 10:30pm and they will continue battling through Level 14. Those with chips at that time will book their Day 2 seat on Sunday.

The Flight C count is dropping fast and only 144 players remain of the starting 419. They’ll play out this level, take a quick break, and play three more levels before calling it a night.

SHRP regular Jessica Dawley is back with us this afternoon and she is closing out a very successful 2018. She had a couple deep runs to start the year, cashed in a few huge WSOP events, and then blasted off when she won her first WSOP bracelet in the Ladies Championship. Dawley cashed the Main Event and now looks to crush the series where she finished sixth in the 2015 Championship.

Flight C players returned from their second break and registration is closed with five more flights to go. The next one goes at 6pm with two more on Friday and two on Saturday. The clock shows 418 entries but we will wait for official word after the math is complete.

Jill Fiorentino continues to sport one of the biggest stacks in the room but she’s been caught by Lloyd Gunther. The 2018 Coco WSOP Circuit Main Event final table member is up to 153,000 for a near identical count for Fiorentino.

Level 8 is here and that means time is running out to get into the third flight of the $1,000,000 Guarantee opener. The count hit 400 entries and they have a little time to run it up. Flight C will play out this level, take a 15-minute break, and close registration when they return.

We have a lot of our familiar faces getting back in action. Tournament Director Tony Burns caught up with Rafael Reis a few minutes ago; Reis won this tournament in 2016 when there were only 5,018 entries. Former November Niner Neil Blumenfield is sitting next to former SHRP winner Pasquale Caiazza and SHRP Player of the Year runner-up Nigel Murray is trying to catch fire once again.
