Robert Mizrachi
Robert Mizrachi, Event 18 Champion

Recap:

Event 18 attracted 18 players who were brave enough to face off against each other in Dealer’s Choice — where players take turns picking which version of poker will be played on each round. There are 10 choices, ranging from old reliable hold’em (limit and no-limit) to rare options like five-card draw and Big O (5-card pot-limit Omaha hi-lo).

It wasn’t a big surprise when Robert Mizrachi won the final hand to claim the trophy. Why? Mizrachi has more than $5.5 million in career live earnings and three WSOP bracelets — one of them in Dealer’s Choice. But when asked about how he ranks as a Dealer’s Choice player, Mizrachi won’t go further than calling himself “decent.”

That’s not an opinion shared by those around him. Even Bradley Ruben, who finished as the runner-up, complimented Mizrachi’s skill before heads-up play began: “Good luck. Not that you need it.”

The big hand of the final table came moments before that line, when Adam Friedman was eliminated in third place. The game was Big O, and all three players got to the river when Mizrachi pot-bet enough to put Friedman all in on a board of KdQd3c8c6c. Ruben folded (claiming he had pocket queens for a set), and Friedman called with Ad9c5d4c6s for a nine-high flush and an 8-6-4 low. But Mizrachi turned over Ac10c7d5h2d for the double nuts — an ace-high flush and the nut low (8-6-3). Mizrachi carried the momentum from that hand on to the victory.

The Seminole Hard Rock is the home casino for Mizrachi, who lives right here in Hollywood, Florida. While he has bigger titles and higher scores on his resume, Mizrachi looked at his SHRPO trophy and said, “It’s fun to win one in my home city.”

Congratulations to Robert Mizrachi!

Final Table Results:

1st:  Robert Mizrachi  (Hollywood, FL)  $16,200
2nd:  Bradley Ruben  (Hernando, FL)  $10,800

Event 18: Robert Mizrachi Wins!

$1,650 Six-Max Dealer’s Choice (Freeze-Out)
Level 17:  1,000/2,000/300 ante
Game:  Pot-Limit Omaha

After Bradley Ruben doubled up in No-Limit Hold’em, Robert Mizrachi switched the game to Pot-Limit Omaha, and regained control of the momentum.

Mizrachi won a good-sized pot on a board of 10-9-4-5-5 when his-A-10-7-5 made a runner-runner full house. That gave Mizrachia  3-to-1 chip lead, and then he continued to pull in small pots to quickly take it to 5-to-1.

After a flop of Jh9s3d, Ruben got it all in. Here were their hands.

Robert Mizrachi:  Ah9d8c3h  (two pair, nines and threes)
Bradley Ruben:  KhKdJd8h  (overpair)

Ruben needed to improve to stay alive, but the turn was the Ac, the river was the Qs, and Mizrachi won the pot — and a SHRPO trophy — with two pair, aces and nines.

Stay tuned for a recap of Event 18.

Event 18: Bradley Ruben Doubles

$1,650 Six-Max Dealer’s Choice (Freeze-Out)
Level 17:  1,000/2,000/300 ante
Game:  No-Limit Hold’em

Bradley Ruben
Bradley Ruben

Robert Mizrachi opened up a chip lead over Bradley Ruben of more than 5.6-to-1 (much of it coming by a solid scoop in Omaha Hi-Lo), when the following hand went down.

In no-limit hold’em, Ruben got it all in preflop for 36,500 with 3s3c against Mizrachi’s KdJh.

The board came Qd6h2cQs9h, and the pocket threes held up for Ruben to win the pot and double up in chips. However, Mizrachi still has more than a 2.3-to-1 chip lead.

Robert Mizrachi  –  171,500  (86 bb / 21 BB)
Bradley Ruben  –  73,600  (37 bb / 9 BB)

And the prizepool they’re playing for:

1st:  $16,200
2nd:  $10,800

Event 18: Adam Friedman Bubbles in 3rd

$1,650 Six-Max Dealer’s Choice (Freeze-Out)
Level 16:  800/1,600/200 ante
Game:  Big O

A big three-way hand developed near the end of Level 16 when the game was Big O (5-Card Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo). All three players built up a pot of 41,600, taking it to the river on a board of KdQd3c8c6c.

Robert Mizrachi pot-bet 41,600 from the small blind, and Bradley Ruben thought for a bit before folding the big blind. Then it was on Adam Friedman on the button, and he thought for a little while before he called.

Adam Friedman:  Ad9c5d4c6s

Friedman had a nine-high club flush for the high, and an 8-6-4 for the low. But then Mizrachi said, “Nut, nut,” as he turned over his hand.

Robert Mizrachi:  Ac10c7d5h2d

Mizrachi had an ace-high flush for the nut high, and an 8-6-3 for the nut low to scoop the entire pot and eliminate Friedman on the Money Bubble in third place. (After the hand, Ruben claimed that he folded a set of queens.)

Adam Friedman  –  Eliminated in 3rd Place

Adam Friedman
3rd-Place Finisher Adam Friedman

A few minutes later, Level 16 came to an end, and the final two players took a 15-minute break. Here are their official chip counts heading into Level 17, with their big blinds (bb) and big bets (BB):

Robert Mizrachi  –  157,900  (79 bb / 20 BB)
Bradley Ruben  –  87,200  (44 bb / 11 BB)

Event 18: Senovio Ramirez Out 4th

$1,650 Six-Max Dealer’s Choice (Freeze-Out)
Level 16:  Limits 3,000/6,000
Game:  Omaha Hi-Lo

Senovio Ramirez III
4th-Place Finisher Senovio Ramirez III

After the game switched to Omaha Hi-Lo, Senovio Ramirez got it all in preflop for about 9,000 against Bradley Ruben.

Bradley Ruben:  5s4d3s2c
Senovio Ramirez:  Ks7h4c3d

Board:  9d3h2h2d8h

Ramirez made two pair (threes and deuces) for the high, and an 8-7 for the low. But Ruben made a full house (deuces full of threes) for the high, and an 8-5 for the low to scoop the entire pot and eliminate Ramirez in fourth place.

Bradley Ruben  –  57,000
Senovio Ramirez  –  Eliminated in 4th Place

With 18 entries in this event, only the final two players will finish in the money. That means the final three players are on the Money Bubble, and they’d begin hand-for-hand play if they weren’t already down to a single table. Here is the prizepool they’re playing for:

1st:  $16,200
2nd:  $10,800

With three players remaining, the average chip stack is about 90,000 (56 big blinds / 15 big bets).

Event 18: Hal Klein Out 5th

$1,650 Six-Max Dealer’s Choice (Freeze-Out)
Level 15:  800 bring-in/2,500 completion/500 ante
Game:  Stud Hi-Lo

Hal Klein
5th-Place Finisher Hal Klein

After the game switched to Stud Hi-Lo, Hal Klein got his short stack all in on third street against Adam Friedman.

Adam Friedman:  (4c) 6s5h
Hal Klein:  (7h) 6c3c

And here’s how their hands finished:

Adam Friedman:  (4c) 6s5h9d3d (2c)
Hal Klein:  (7h) 6c3cQd4d3s (Jx)

Klein picked up an open-ended seven-high straight draw (and low draw) on fifth street, but couldn’t complete his straight or pick up a qualifying low — Klein had to settle for a pair of threes for his high.

Unfortunately for him, Friedman made a six-high straight on seventh street for a high and a low to scoop the entire pot and eliminate Klein in fifth place.

Adam Friedman  –  70,000
Hal Klein  –  Eliminated in 5th Place

With 18 entries in this event, only the final two players will finish in the money:

1st:  $16,200
2nd:  $10,800

Shortly after Klein’s elimination, Level 15 came to an end, and Level 16 began with blinds of 800-1,600 (200 ante) and limits of 3,000-6,000.

With four players remaining, the average chip stack is about 67,500 (42 big blinds / 11 big bets).

Event 18: Phillip Hui Out 6th

$1,650 Six-Max Dealer’s Choice (Freeze-Out)
Level 15:  600/1,200/200 ante
Game:  Big O

Phillip Hui
6th-Place Finisher Phillip Hui

It didn’t take long for Phillip Hui to get his short stack all in during a round of Big O (5-card Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo). Adam Friedman and Hui saw a flop of Qh10d2h, and that’s when Hui got it all in.

Adam Friedman:  AhJd9h3c2c  (ace-high flush draw, wrap straight draw)
Phillip Hui:  AsQs10h5d3s  (top two pair)

The turn was the 3h, the river was the 9d, and Friedman won the pot with a heart flush to eliminate Hui in sixth place.

Adam Friedman  –  58,000
Phillip Hui  –  Eliminated in 6th Place

With 18 entries in this event, only the final two players will finish in the money:

1st:  $16,200
2nd:  $10,800

With five players remaining, the average chip stack is about 54,000 (45 big blinds / 11 big bets).
