Event 23: Jake Schindler Gets Two-Outed

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 8: 300/600 with a 75 ante
Players: 501

On a flop of 9c5d3s, Jake Schindler checked from the big blind and a player in middle position bet. Schindler put in a check-raise and Schindler got his opponent all in for his last 6,400.

Schindler showed Th5h and was in the lead against his opponent’s Tc3c.

The turn was the 3d, however, and the player in middle position took the lead. The river was the Ah and Schindler lost the pot to double up his opponent.

“That was not chainsaw approved,” said Allen Kessler after the hand.

Schindler took the hit to his chip stack, but still has more than double his starting stack.

Jake Schindler – 43,000

Event 23: Samuel Bernabeu Eliminates Matt Berkey

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 8: 300/600 with a 75 ante
Players: 501

After Samuel Bernabeu opened with a raise from middle position, Matt Berkey three-bet all in for roughly 9,000 from the small blind. After the player in the big blind folded, Bernabeu, who back in 2013 finished fifth in the SHRPO Main Event, made the call.

Bernabeu: AsQc
Berkey: 10h9h

The 5s8h2d flop was no help to Berkey, and while the 7s turn didn’t hit him directly, it did give him an open-ended straight draw to go with his two live cards. Unfortunately for him, none of his outs appeared as the Kc bricked on the river.

Samuel Bernabeu – 34,000
Matt Berkey – Eliminated

Event 23: Dan O’Brien Doubles Through Kane Kalas

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 8: 300/600 with a 75 ante
Players: 501

Dan O'Brien
Dan O’Brien

A player in early position raised to 1,400 and Kane Kalas called in the cutoff. Dan O’Brien moved all in for 7,450 out of the small blind and the original raiser folded. Kalas took a minute before calling.

O’Brien showed AdQh and was in the lead against Kalas’ Tc9c.

The board ran out As7h4dQd8h and O’Brien had Kalas drawing dead on the turn to double up.

Dan O’Brien – 17,500
Kane Kalas – 42,000

Event 23: Big Slick for Chane Kampanatsanyakorn

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 8: 300/600 with a 75 ante
Players: 501

A short-stacked player moved all in for 5,025 under the gun and action folded all the way around to Thailand’s Chane Kampanatsanyakorn, who moved all in for about twice that from the small blind. That prompted the player in the big to fold and the cards were turned up.

Kampanatsanyakorn: AhKs
Opponent: QhJs

Kampanatsanyakorn was ahead, but his opponent was drawing to two live cards. Fortunately for Kampanatsanyakorn, neither came as the board ran out a clean 4d9s3d5s2d.

Chane Kampanatsanyakorn – 16,000

Event 23: Darren Rabinowitz Shows a Card

Darren Rabinowitz
Darren Rabinowitz

Darren Rabinowitz raised from early position and the player in the hijack three-bet to 3,600. Rabinowitz four-bet to about 8,000 and the hijack called.

The flop was KsKh3c and Rabinowitz checked. The hijack bet 5,500 and Rabinowitz called.

Both players checked the 5d turn and the Js came on the river. Rabinowitz moved all in and the hijack quickly folded. Rabinowitz collected the chips and showed the Ts as he mucked his hand.

Darren Rabinowitz – 46,500

Brian Hastings got things started with a raise to 1,100 from late position. It was on Filipp Khavin on the button and he three-bet to 2,800. The blinds folded and Hastings saw a flop versus Khavin.

Both players checked.

Turn: Td6d4d3h

Hastings lead for 3,800. Khavin called.

River: Td6d4d3h3c

Event 23: Anthony Lombard More Than Doubles

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 7: 250/500 with a 75 ante
Players: 495

SHRPO-Event-23-07643

Anthony Lombad, who finished seventh a couple days ago in Event #20: No-Limit Hold’em Turbo for $5,880, raised to 1,500 from early position and the player to his direct left made the call. Blake Bohn, who was to that player’s left, did the same, and action folded to the player in the big blind, who moved all in for 27,500.

Lombard wasted little time in calling off for 17,625 total and the other two players ditched their hands.

Lombard: KcKd
Opponent: AdKs

Lombard was looking to avoid an ace, and he did so on the Jd10c4s flop, though his opponent did pick up a Broadway gutshot to a queen. The 3s turn was of no consequence, and neither was the 5h river. Ship the double to Lombard.

Anthony Lombard – 40,000

Event 23: Iaron Lightbourne Doubles Up

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 7: 250/500 with a 75 ante
Players: 495

On the turn with the board reading 7c7d4h2c, the player in middle position checked and Iaron Lightbourne bet 2,100 from the hijack.

The river was the Ac and middle position moved all in for effectively Lightbourne’s last 5,700. Lightbourne immediately called and showed Ah7h, good for a full house.

“That was a bad river card for me,” said Lightbourne’s opponent, who showed Jc8c, having rivered a flush.

Lightbourne dragged the pot and doubled up.

Iaron Lighbourne – 21,000
