Four months ago, Nelson Resendiz of Houston, Texas suffered a bad beat when his opponent hit a three-outer against him with three players left in a trophy event during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. Resendiz was eliminated the next hand, while his opponent — Gavin O’Rourke — went on to win the title and the trophy.

Resendiz finally got his redemption tonight by winning the $1,100 Six-Max No-Limit Hold’em event to win the title, the trophy, and $57,340.

“It was a long time coming,” said Resendiz, who has been focusing more on live tournaments over the past 18 months.

This time, Resendiz could point to a hand where he hit a key three-outer. “The one hand that sticks out is when I got it all in with ace-ten against ace-king, blind vs. blind,” said Resendiz.” “I happened to hit a ten, and I took off from there.” (Click here to read about that hand that happened with five players left.)

There were 288 entries in this event, creating a total prizepool worth $279,360, nearly tripling the $100K guarantee. But it was a late night, as it was nearly 4:00 am when the final hand was dealt.

Resendiz is a big fan of the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, and even though it was a late night, he said he plans to enter the $5,250 SHRPO Championship tomorrow for Day 1A.

“I absolutely love it here,” said Resendiz. “I love the fact that they play music while we play. It makes the time go by faster.”
