Kelly Minkin

Level 2 has come to an end and the RRPO Championship is on its first break of the day. We have 235 entries in the game so far with more lined up at the registration desk.

A few more of favorites joined the game including Kelly Minkin and Aaron Massey and each has some nice results here. Minkin’s biggest tournament score came during the 2015 WPT LHPO Championship when she finished third for $262,000.

Massey consistently makes deep runs in all of our series with a bunch of SHRP final tables among his $3.6 million in career earnings.

Brett Bader

In addition to the big money payouts in the Championship, players also earn points towards the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year award. There are nine Championship events that qualify for point throughout the year around the state and the winner will earn a package with an estimated worth of $25,000 including an entry into all Championship events.

The race wraps up in August after the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship and this year it was SHRP regular Brett Bader narrowly beating out WPT LHPO winner Darryll Fish for this year’s POY honors. He grabbed his “freeroll” seat this after and making his attempt to go back-to-back.

Jennifer Tilly

Some of our favorite visitors are taking their seats this afternoon and that includes one of those poker power couples.

Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly is a dual threat and no slouch at the poker table, winning the WSOP Ladies Championship in 2005, a Bellagio $5K event in 2010, and runner-up in a $5K short-handed event this year at PCA. She’s been consistent over the years and proven she has the chops.

Her significant other, Phil Laak, is pretty decent at the game as well. He owns a WSOP bracelet and his name is on the WPT Champions Cup. Laak has four WPT final tables along with $3.7 million in career earnings.

Michael Newman

Any time we throw a major Championship, players come from around the world to make it an international affair. Our visiting friends make up their fair share of tournament wins but last year we kept it in-house.

Michael Newman already had a handful of SHRP titles when he took down his biggest in this Championship last year. At a six-handed final table that included Darryll Fish, Sheddy Siddiqui, Ari Engel, and Tom Marchese, Newman won the Championship and banked just shy of $375,000.

Tony Sinishtaj

We’re seeing a steady parade of players coming into the Hard Rock Event Center to take their shot at the Championship. A good, early crowd that bodes well for a big number.

We have some past WPT Champions in the house along with past SHRP champs. In Tony Sinishtaj’s case, he is both. He was the last player standing in the 2017 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship and booked a $661K win when he put his name on the WPT Champions Cup.

The preliminary events are complete and that means it is time for the World Poker Tour to come to town for another big event. The 2018 WPT Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open” Championship kicks off this afternoon and it will be an exciting time in the Hard Rock Event Center.

The $3,500 buy-in Championship has a huge $2,000,000 guaranteed prize pool with two starting flights, plenty of chips, and long levels to give participants as much play as possible.

They will sit down to 40,000 deep starting stacks and levels will last one hour on both Day 1 and Day 2. The levels increase to 90 minutes after that until the tournament reaches the live-streamed final table with six players remaining. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until 10:15 this evening and there is a 90-minute dinner break scheduled after Level 6.

Their day will come to an end after Level 10 and all survivors will bag their chips for a Day 2 return on Sunday.

We’ve been building up to this for the first week and now it’s time to get down to the business of finding our next RRPO Champion.

Ben Dobson

Cards are back in the air after the second break and we have a new leader. Matt Edge and David Rivera are still stacked nicely but Ben Dobson topped them both with 1,435,000 to lead the pack.

Dobson comes to us via the UK with over $1,000,000 in career earnings and he picked up his first career WSOP bracelet this summer in the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo event.
