If there is one player who stands out in the massive field today, it is former NBA center Earl Barron.

At 7 feet tall, Barron played four years of college basketball at the University of Memphis before graduating in 2003. Although he did not get drafted into the NBA, Barron spent time playing professional basketball in Turkey, the NBA’s developmental league, and in the Philippines before catching on with Miami Heat in 2005.

Barron spent three seasons in a reserve role with the Heat and was a part of their NBA Championship roster in 2006. After his time in Miami, Barron returned to the international basketball scene in Italy in 2008. An ankle injury cut his time in Italy short, leading to an NBA D-League return in 2009. After being named to the D-League All-Star game in 2010, Barron signed with the New York Knicks late in the 2009-2010 season. In his short span on Broadway, Barron played seven games and enjoyed the best stretch of his career. He averaged a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes per game.

Following his time with Knicks, Barron had short stints with the Phoenix Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, and again with the Knicks between 2010 and 2013.

As for his time spent on the poker felt, Barron has more than $65,000 in live tournament winnings. His best result came at the 2010 Gold Strike World Poker Open in Tunica, where he finished in 4th of 91 players in the $4,800 Championship Event for $33,896. In addition, Barron also finished 231st of 2,384 entries in the 2013 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship Event for $8,726.
