2021 RRPO Event 30 Champion Duff Charette

Event 30 of the 2021 Seminole Hard Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open was the $5,000 Eight-Max No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry), a staple closing event towards the end of the SHRP major series.

Emerging victorious was Duff Charette, winning outright for $206,345.

“It was a crazy final table,” Charette said afterward. “I made a big fold early on with nine players left with jacks against the chip leader. I was third in chips at the time, so there were things I had to consider. It all worked out in the end.”

With four players left, Charette had less than five big blinds. He was able to avoid all-in confrontations in some surprising spots, and he was able to win the ones where the chips did get in.

“I picked up so many hands where it was easy for me to go all in, and my opponents just didn’t have the hands to call. Then when we got heads-up, those crazy hands happaned.”

The victory also sets a milestone for Charette, pushing him past the million-dollar mark in live tournament winnings according to the Hendon Mob poker database.

2021 RRPO Event 30 Champion Duff Charette

Heads-up play between Duff Charette and Martin Stausholm lasted two hands thanks to a pair of premium heads-up hands for each.

On the first hand, Charette raised to 130,000 from the button and Stausholm three-bet shoved with his chip-leading stack. Charette called all in for 1,320,000.

Charette:  Ah10h
Stausholm:  9d9c

The board came down 7sKsQs10dJs, pairing Charette’s ten on the turn and giving hin an ace-high straight on the river to double into the chip lead.

Duff Charette  –  2,700,000 (45 bb)
Martin Stausholm  –  640,000  (11 bb)

On the following hand, Stausholm limped on the button. Charette shoved with his chip-leading stack from the big blind and Stausholm called all in for 640,000.

Charette:  KcKs
Stausholm:  10c10d

The flop came an ordinary 6s5c6d, keeping Charette in the lead with his kings, however, the turn brought the 10s to vault Stausholm back ahead with tens full.

Charette was down to two outs, needing a king on the river.

River: Kh

The two outer on the turn was followed by a two outer on the river, locking up the outright victory for Charette for $206,345.

Stausholm finished runner-up for $138,145.

A recap of the event will be posted in a little while.
