2016 SHRPO Event 1 Day 2

Event 1 players are heading on their 40-minute dinner with 112 players remaining. The pace of play slowed down but we expect that to change when they return when the average stack will be 23 big blinds.

We’ll take the time during the extended time away from the tables to find our big stacks and notable names.

Players are back from their second break of the day, on that was a little more relaxed than the last break now that they are in the money.

We found two players stacked up in seven-digit territory. “King Tony” Li was an early chip leader during his starting flight and he’s back up top today with less than 140 players remaining. He’s followed closely by two-time WPT final table member Daniel “wildman75” Buzgon with Marc Levy close to hitting the mark as well.

Starting Day 2 leader Avi Kalmis is still going strong with 675,000 though the leaders have pulled away from him.

There is a parade of players to the payout desk after the money bubble burst, including David Nathaniel.

But he’s probably not too broken up about it right now.

Nathaniel began the day with 127,000 but that was quickly whittled down to a tiny stack. He watching the hand-for-hand process continue while he eventually was down to a single 1K ante chip. Good new for him, there were all-in hands called on three other tables.

With the double bubble knockout, Nathaniel slid into the money and his tablemates rejoiced with him.

Bob Gelin, in the 1-seat, waits for the other tables to complete
Bob Gelin (Seat 1) all in

Bob Gelin got his last 20,000 into the pot preflop on a three-bet shove, and he found action from both Willie Wiggins (small blind) and the original raiser (middle position). The board ran out 5h4c2d8hQh, with the two live players checking it all the way down.

Wiggins: 7h7c
Raiser: Ac6c
Gelin: AdKh

Gelin’s ace-king did not improve, and he was eliminated at the hands of Wiggins.

There was still hope for Gelin, though, as another hand was in progress at an adjacent table. John Kwon was all in versus Daniel Garon on an 8c5c3h flop. Kwon showed AhAc, but Garon’s 3s3c had out-flopped him. The turn and river were both blanks, and Kwon was eliminated.

Gelin and Kwon shared the bottom payout, earning $324 apiece.

John Kwon – Eliminated in 251st place ($324)
Bob Gelin – Eliminated in 250th place ($324)

Event 1: Hand-for-Hand on the Bubble

$360 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 18: 3,000/6,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 251 of 2,570

The number on the board has just ticked down to 251 players remaining, bringing the field onto the direct money bubble. The next player eliminated will go home empty handed, while the final 250 will all be guaranteed to earn at least $648.

Play is currently hand-for-hand until the bubble bursts.

Event 1: Marc Stein Doubles Near the Bubble

$360 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 18: 3,000/6,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 252 of 2,570

With a raise and a call in front of him, the player in the small blind moved all in for just over 100,000 total, and Marc Stein called all in for 97,000 from the big blind.

Small blind: 9s9h
Stein: KdKh

The player on the button said he folded the other two nines, so the small blind needed something other than a set to survive. The board ran out AhQs5s2d6c, though, and Stein’s kings held to earn him the double-up.

Marc Stein – 230,000 (38 bb)
