Ariel Williams

As we near the end of the flights, we like to begin eyeballing stacks to track the end-of-day leaders. Ariel Williams was an obvious choice when we walked around during the break.

She ran her 20,000 starting stack over 200,000 before the final break and then picked up some more to push it up to 229,500 with a few more levels to run.

Steve Karp

Steve Karp opened to 2,400 under the gun, and a player in position called. The big blind three-bet shoved for 14,000, Karp re-shoved for more than 50,000, and the third player folded out of the way to leave the big blind heads-up and at risk.

Karp: TcTd
Big blind: 7s7d

The board ran out Ks9h8sTh9d, and Karp won the pot with tens full to shrink the field by one.

Steve Karp – 70,000 (70 bb)

Event 9 Flight E: Ryan Van Sanford Eliminated by Alfredo Fernandez

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 9: 400/800 with a 100 Ante
Flight E Players Remaining: 351 of 676

Ryan Van Sanford opened to 1,800 under the gun, Alfredo Fernandez called a couple seats over, and both blinds joined to create four-way action.

The flop was Td6h2d. It checked to Fernandez, who bet 3,800. The blinds folded, but Van Sanford check-raised all in for 17,900 total. Fernandez called, having Van Sanford covered by just 100 chips. Both players were drawing.

Van Sanford: 7h8h (straight draw)
Fernandez: 3d4d (combo draw)

The 6d turn filled Fernandez’s flush, locking up the pot one card early. Van Sanford was already drawing dead to the 8c river, and he was eliminated. “See you in a few hours,” he said as he left the table.

The final starting flight for this event, Day 1F, begins at 6 p.m., and Van Sanford has plans to be in attendance.

Alfredo Fernandez – 44,000 (55 bb)
Ryan Van Sanford – Eliminated

Event 9 Flight E: Wentz Takes the Lead

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 9: 400/800 with a 100 Ante
Flight E Entries: 676

Alan Wentz

Flight E players returned from break with 676 entries showing on the clock. We’re waiting for the smart people to run the official numbers, once they are done we will post them and see where we stand with one more flight to fly.

Of those still around, Alan Wentz returned to the biggest stack. His 158,000 is well clear of the rest and we’ll see if he can hold on to the top spot.

Event 9 Flight E: Charlemagne Benjamin Doubles Through Jake Schwartz

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 8: 300/600 with a 75 Ante
Flight E Entries: 653

Charlemagne Benjamin

Jake Schwartz opened to 1,400 in early position, and Charlemagne Benjamin three-bet to 4,000 on the button. Schwartz four-bet shoved for 22,050 effective, and Benjamin called all in for that amount to put himself at risk.

Schwartz: Kd8d
Benjamin: QsQc

“Well, I got an over,” Schwartz tried to find the silver lining. He had much more than that after the Td7d6c flop, picking up straight and flush draws with two cards to come. That’s as close as he’d get, though. The Ah turn and 8c river completed the board safely for Benjamin, and he doubled up with his pair of queens.

Schwartz was left with just 1,450 chips after paying off the debt, and he was eliminated one hand later.

Charlemagne Benjamin – 45,600 (76 bb)
Jake Schwartz – Eliminated

Flight E Entries: 603

Olivier Busquet

We’re seeing more and more big names come to town for the big money prelim and get ready for the big WPT events on the horizon.

WPT Champions Club member Olivier Busquet jumped into early action and we caught him putting his last ~6,000 in the middle from early position. The big blind opponent called and Busquet needed to catch an over.

Big Blind: 9c9h
Busquet: Ah2h

It started well for Busquet when he hit a part of the 8h7s2d flop but he blanked the 5c turn and 4d river to exit. But have no fear Busquet fans, “livb112” hit the registration desk to use a re-entry option.
