The first major tournament of the 2015 Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open is upon us with the start of the WPT DeepStacks event. The mid-stake buy-in associate of the World Poker Tour has become a popular series for players with varying bankrolls.

Five Qualifiers have run for this event, with another at 3pm and 6pm, so there will be plenty of local regulars mixing it up with the higher staked players. The $1,100 buy-in tournament has a $300,000 guarantee so we should see a lot of action.

This one wasn’t getting away.

After a runner-up finish in Event 5 where the cards turned against him time and time again, Daren Stabinski moved up one spot this time around in Event 12 and claimed the title.

With only one major hand going against him the whole way on the final table, Stabinski accumulated enough chips to convince his opponents to decide to take a four-way chop and Stabinski couldn’t have been happier to redeem himself after the earlier disappointment.

“I was so unlucky the other night and Day 3 didn’t go my way but I felt like tonight was my night.  I felt good and had such a big chip lead going into the final table it was fairly easy to run it over.”

Stabinski was very impressed with the rest of the table including 18 year-old Blake Ovind.  “I have a history with “Al”(Santana Noronha).  We’ve been playing together for ten years and the young guys were cool too especially the 18-year old.”

Stabinski was tempted to play it out and Ovind was hesitant to chop as well but in the end they decided it was the best decision.  “I wanted to play it out but I wasn’t giving up too much on the ICM chop and didn’t want to double up Al.  I was very happy to just lock up the trophy.”

And of course, Stabinski will be back in this series having already locked up a seat in the Main Event.  Everyone had better watch out because after a first and second here so far, Stabinski should be one of the favorites to take down that championship as well.

Congratulations to our Event 12 Champion Daren Stabinski!

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 18: Blinds 2,500/5,000/500 ante

There was a little hesitation but the remaining four players decided to call it a tournament with Daren Stabinski rolling to the Event 12 title after losing out on the Event 5 title to Angel Vu earlier in this series.

Stabinski’s dominant stack led the way as he claims his fourth Hard Rock championship.  The deal gave Stabinski $21,256.

The outspoken Santana Noronha ended up in 2nd picking up $16,912.  He was followed by Canadian Geoffrey McNeely in 3rd scoring $12,365 and 18 year-old North Dakotan Blake Ovind putting $12,502 in his pocket for an impressive 4th place finish.

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 17: Blinds 2,000/4,000/500 ante

Richard Meyers went from second highest chip stack to seeing his evening come to an end.

Coming off losing most of his stack to Santana Noronha by calling into trip nines, Meyers made his last stand against chip leader Daren Stabinski.

Meyers was looking good stay alive but Stabinski hit the JcQh7s and with the 3s and 9h coming out, Meyers was done.

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 17: Blinds 2,000/4,000/500 ante

First hand back, another player down.

David Jackson got it in against Santana Noronha right off the bat and had Noronha on the ropes.  Jackson held QQ vs Noronha’s J-10.

But fate was not on Jackson’s side as Noronha caught a straight to his 10 on the river.  Noronha yelled “SHIP IT!” after getting it in with the worst hand and barely had Jackson covered to end his night.

David Jackson finishes in 6th place for $4,375.

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 16: Blinds 1,500/3,000/500 ante

It was time to go big or go home for Larry Klur.

Klur raised to 23,000 and Daren Stabinski went over the top putting Klur all-in.  Klur saying “I guess it’s time to get my $3,500 bucks and go home” made the call.

Klur: Ad7d
Stabinski: AcKd

Klur got no help with a 4sTcJs3s5c board and his prophecy came true. Klur finishes in 7th place and does take home his $3,500.

Event 12: Steven Bennett – 8th Place ($2,903)

$1,100 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 15: Blinds 1,200/2,400/400 ante

Steven Bennett was the only player in real danger after the break and was whittled down to just 12,700 in the small blind. He moved all-in and Larry Klur called after looking at one card, the Ah.

Klur was ahead with Ah5d against Jh6h. The dealer put the Jd in the window but it was followed by the Ad and 9d. The diamonds made things a little tougher for Bennett to stay alive and he was gone after the board ran out 8h9h.

Klur picked up the small pot and Bennett was the first to get paid, picking up $2,903 for 8th place.
