Devon Shalmi had just picked up a nice-sized pot from Lexy Gavin but those chips didn’t last long.

Justin Swilling limped in early position, the small blind completed, and Shalmi raised to 24,000 from the big blind. Swilling raised to 70,000 to get a fold from the small blind and Shalmi put in a fourth bet to 162,000.

Swilling called to see the JxJx5x flop and Shalmi put in his last 232,000. Swilling called with AsJs and his flopped trip jacks were good against Shalmi’s big pair KcKh. Shalmi couldn’t catch a miracle and was sent out earlier than he anticipated.

Justin Swilling – 820,000 (137 bb)
Devon Shalmi – Eliminated

Brandon Steven was all-in and in trouble against Paul Volpe. His AdJh needed help against Volpe’s AsQh and got a lot of it on the QcTc9s flop.

The 3d turn was no help but the Kd river filled in his open-ended straight draw for the double. Volpe was knocked under 100,000 and was eliminated a few hands later.

Brandon Steven – 210,000 (35 bb)
Paul Volpe – Elimninated

Championship Day 2: Brian Wachs Saved by a Reraise

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 16: 3,000/6,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 95 of 847

A player raised under the gun to 18,000, the UTG+1 player called, and Brian Wachs moved all in from the button for about 80,000. The big blind moved all in for about 350,000, covering everyone else in the pot.

The original raiser folded, and the UTG+1 player tanked for a long time before folding QhQc face up with about 160,000 behind. There was some shock at the table, and that player wasn’t pleased to see Wachs show AsKs and the big blind turn over AdKc.

Wachs thanked the big blind for forcing the third player to fold, greatly increasing his chances of remaining in the tournament.

The board came 10c4d2h4c5h, with the UTG+1 player shouting for an ace to appear to give him some solace for folding his pocket queens. As for Wachs and the big blind, it was a chopped pot.

Brian Wachs  –  100,000  (17 bb)
