Michael LaRocca open-shoved from the button for 1,000,000 and Harrison Gimbel called from the big blind with Ks2c.

LaRocca was behind with Jh8c and nothing changed as the dealer spread Ah6c2d6dAc to send LaRocca out in 6th place.

The blinds levels continued to force the action and we had another major pot shortly after Goodman was sent out.

It was Salomon Ponte getting frisky for a third time with an open to 900,000 and he was called by Ed Mallon. Ryan D’Angelo followed by moving all-in for 3,650,000 and Ponte flatted.

That was enough for Mallon and he moved all-in over the top for 400K more. Mallon called for the massive three-way all-in.

Mallon: KdKs
Ponte: AdQd
D’Angelo: KcTh

D’Angelo needed a lot of help to stay alive and Ponte needed to catch for the double KO. Ponte paired the Qc7h3h flop but that was it as the board finished 7s and 5s.

D’Angelo was sent out in 7th place while Mallon earned the big pot.

Salomon Ponte continued to build his lead and local Zack Goodman was the next in line. Goodman three-bet shoved just like Balzano before him but was in much worse shape when Ponte called.

Ponte: KsKd
Goodman: QdTs

It was a decent flop for Goodman when the Jh9d7h gave him an open-ended straight draw. But he found no love on the 2d turn or 6c river to go out in 8th place.

Paul Balzano was in danger from the start of play and took his shot just a few hands into action.

He three-bet shoved for 750,000 after an open from Salomon Ponte and was coin flipping to stay in the game.

Balzano: 6d6h
Ponte: Ad9d

Balzano needed to dodge the overs but Ponte hit right on the As7s2c flop. He was drawing thin and missed the 3d turn and Qc river to go out in 9th place for $27,390.

Trophy

There were 1,684 entrants looking for a piece of the massive WPTDeepStacks prize pool with only nine of them still alive. After a long Day 2, they return today to the Paradise Live theater to play it down to a champion.

Ryan D’Angelo and Harrison Gimbel are the two most accomplished players at the final table. In fact, they both notched their biggest tournament cash in the same event. D’Angelo finished fifth in the 2010 PCA Main Event and Gimbel won it all.

Salomon Ponte leads at the restart while local favorite Paul Balzano has a lot of work to do with his short stack. Everyone has a shot at the big money and we’ll find out soon who that will be.

Players are going through the final process of production set up and cards will soon be in the air.
