Championship Day 1B: A.J. Gambino Leads; Mario De La Puente Close

$5,250 SHRPO Championship (Single Re-Entry)
$3,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 3: 200/300 with a 300 ante
Flight B Entries: 254 (Total Entries: 650)

A.J. Gambino

Flight B players returned to their seats and everyone is chasing Purple Chip Bounty champ A.J. Gambino. He is stacked up to 98,000 to lead the field but Mario De La Puente is not far behind with 96,000.

De La Puente went on a nice heater to close out his spring and head into the summer. He final tabled our WPT Poker Showdown $360 tournament in April then went to our sister room in Tampa and won two tournaments during their WPTDeepStacks series. The second of the two wins gave him his biggest career cash, a $39,000 payday for capturing the $1,650 Mega Stack title.

Other notable big stacks include Kevin Lew (93,300). Corey Hochman (89,800), Craig Varnell (81,500), Matthew Zarcadoolas (80,000), Luis Zedan (79,000), Daniel Couzens (78,000), Anthony Dianaty (76,000), and Rainer Kempe (68,000).

Championship Day 1B: Nearing the Guarantee

$5,250 SHRPO Championship (Single Re-Entry)
$3,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 2: 100/200 with a 200 ante
Flight B Entries: 200 (Total Entries: 596)

Eric Afriat

Flight B is playing its way closer to the first break and the entry count has climbed to 200 to leave the Championship on 19 away from surpassing the $3,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. It’s a race between the clock and the count.

Eric Afriat is back with us and aiming for another major title. He came close to setting a WPT record earlier this year when he made the final table of our WPT Poker Showdown Championship, the same title he won in 2014. A second title in that tournament would make him the first person to win the same WPT event more than once.

Unfortunately for the two-time WPT Champions Club member, he was unable to pull it off but added another $465,000 to his bankroll for his runner-up result.

David Levi

We had 19 tournaments play out on the schedule as the run up to the SHRPO Championship. David Levi came out of the gates at full speed and won the $400 Limit Omaha 8 on the first day of the series which pushed his career cash total over $4,000,000.

A few days later, he made it deep in the $1,700 Purple Chip Bounty tournament and finished fifth place. That tournament was won by A.J. Gambino who dominated late to win his trophy. It was his third Hollywood win and first major series title.

Championship Day 1B: Chasing the POY

Jeff Trudeau

Players continue to make their way to the Event Center even before we roll into the afternoon hours. Some were here very early and some will wait until its very late, whatever works best for their style.

Jeff Trudeau was in his seat at the start, chasing Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year honors along with a SHRPO Championship title. He sits in fourth overall behind Chad Eveslage, Dan Chalifour, and leader Jason Young. He earned all of his POY points at our sister room in Tampa; fifth place in the Tampa Poker Classic early in the year and a win in the WPTDeepStacks Tampa Main Event this summer.

Championship Day 1B: Shooting for $3 Million

$5,250 SHRPO Championship (Single Re-Entry)
$3,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 1: 100/100 with a 100 ante

Today we have one primary tournament in the Event Center, the second and final flight of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship. The first flight drew 396 entries for the $5,250 buy-in tournament to leave it only 223 away from making its $3,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. There’s little doubt it will get there today, the only real question is how big it will get.

Tony Sinishtag, 2017 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Champion, was here from Level 1 in Flight A and finished with 365,500. Chris Moneymaker, 2003 WSOP Main Event winner, was one of the last entries and finished the day in fourth with 309,000.

Other notables advancing include Tim Reilly, Scott Baumstein, Matt Brady, Matt Berkey, Ryan Riess, Paul Volpe, Mohsin Charania, Dan Suied, Mukul Pahuja, Jake Schindler, reigning WPT Poker Showdown champion James Carroll, and defending SHRPO Champion Brandon Eisen.
