Kevin Chan

Flight C is playing out the clock on Level 8 which means we are ready to send them on their second break. Registration will remain open during that time but it will close once cards go back in the air.

Kevin Chan is another familiar face in the room that will not need to refire Flight C. The last time we saw Chan, he finished fourth in the WPTDeepStacks Hollywood Main Event during the Lucky Hearts Poker Open for $89,000.

Event 1 Flight C: Tony Dunst Fires

Tony Dunst

We missed his brief appearance yesterday, a bullet that misfired after a max late reg, but we caught up with WPT Commentator Tony Dunst as he takes a shot in today’s field.

Dunst is here for two reasons, three if you include trying to win Event 1. In addition to his booth duties with the World Poker Tour, the WPT Champions Club member will be leading the LearnWPT Ladies Brunch tomorrow. It will be a great afternoon of food and beginner instructions from Dunst before we start the $10,000 Guarantee Ladies Event at 3pm. Also at the brunch, we are raffling off fives seats into the Ladies Event to freeroll a few forthe fun game.

The admission cost is $50 and open to the first 50 women who sign up in the poker room or at the tournament information desk in the Event Center.

Justin Sharpe

The count is climbing high and it officially crossed over 1,000 after the first break. That puts the prize pool over $500,000 on the path to $1,000,000.

Justin Sharpe took a seat this afternoon, another visitor from out of state trying to win some South Florida money. He earned his first WSOP Circuit ring at the end of 2018 and came close to another in February. Sharpe finished third out of 1,607 entries in the Coco WSOP Circuit $400 opener for a nice $40,000 payday.

Event 1 Flight C: Mario James Leads

Mario James

Flight C players are back from the break and it hit 300 entries while they were gone, plus some more. They are nearly halfway to the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool with two hours of late registration here, Flight D at 6pm, and two massive flights tomorrow to run it up.

Our early leader is Mario James and his 95,000 is far ahead of everyone else. Fernando Eguez looks like the second biggest with 76,000 with other notable big stacks Michael Alan (71,100), Tony Nashaat (70,000), and Douglas Decker (67,200) the nearest contenders.

Event 1 Flight C: Friends from Afar

Level 4: 200/300 with a 300 ante
Flight C Entries: 296 (Total: 951)

Lisa Pickell

Flight C is creeping up on 300 entries this afternoon as they prepare to go on the first break of the day. With the weekend here, we are starting to see some of our out of town guests take a seat.

Lisa Pickell hopped a flight this morning from the cold Northeast and came straight to the Event Center for some action. The Jersey grinder has been hitting some nice results of late and looking for another big score.

The Massey Brothers, Aaron and Ralph, are practically South Florida pros with the amount of action they have down here. But they are Chicago boys and both have been going big over the last year with Aaron the latest big score, his third WSOP Circuit ring back in January.

Kyle Carino bags early Event 1 lead

The 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown kicked off on Thursday with two flights of the $1,000,000 Guarantee opener along with a one-day Omaha 8 trophy event.

Of the 84 already set for Day 2, Kyle Carino put away the biggest stack and his 362,000 is the early leader. Adam Mann came close to matching him in Flight B but he was two 1K chips shorter with 360,000 in his bag.

Harry Eisenberg Wins Event 2 for his Second SHRP Trophy

Event 1 wasn’t the only action in the Event Center on Thursday, we also awarded our first trophy of the series. The schedule is jam-packed with non-hold’em tournaments and the first was Event 3.

It was a $360 buy-in Limit Omaha 8 game for our split-pot fans. The tournament drew 67 entries to push the prize pool over $20,000 and the last nine players took home some money. Phil Hui was the headliner at the final table trying to earn back-to-back SHRP Omaha titles. He won the $570 Omaha 8 tournament during the Lucky Hearts Poker Open in January but fell one spot short of another this time around.

Harry Eisenberg beat Hui, the WSOP Omaha 8 bracelet winner, heads up for the title and outright win. This is the second major SHRP title for Eisenberg to go along with his 2018 Lucky Hearts Poker Open H.O.R.S.E. trophy,

Arkadiy Tsinis

The Event Center is quickly filling and we added another 100 entries in the last 30 minutes. There’s a steady presence at the registration desk and a parade of players joining the field. A few more levels like this and we’ll be looking at the guarantee early tomorrow.

South Florida’s Arkadiy Tsinis took an early seat this morning with an eye towards his first SHRP title. He already has plenty of success elsewhere with a 2011 WSOP bracelet and four career WSOP Circuit rings. Tsinis came close to a fifth ring at our sister property in Coconut Creek when he made two final tables during their WSOP Circuit series in February.

Event 1 Flight C: Minkin and Muchnick Get in the Game

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 2: 100/100 with a 100 ante
Flight C Entries: 142 (Total: 797)

Kelly Minkin

Flight C got a little tougher with the recent introduction of Kelly Minkin and Cindy Muchnick into the field. Minkin announced herself with a laugh and a snarl from tablemate Michael Newman. Muchnick is relaxed and taking chips.

Minkin deals more with tournament while Muchnick gets the reaction when she walks up to a cash table on the other side of the house.

Minkin has nearly $1.3 million in career earnings with her biggest cash coming here in 2015 when she finished third at the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Championship final table. She followed that up with her second biggest in the WSOP Main Event that summer when she was the “last woman standing” in 29th place.

For anyone looking to join these two talented players at the top of their games, we have a LearnWPT Ladies Poker Brunch tomorrow morning for those looking to improve their game. It is geared towards beginners and WPT Commentator Tony Dunst will be the instructor. The brunch is $50 and open to the first 50 who sign up plus WPT will raffle off five seats into the Ladies Event which starts at 3pm.
