Recap:

Event 9 ($300 Omaha8OB/Stud8OB) crowned a winner on Wednesday at the Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open and his name is Ronald “Wink” Winkelvoss. He has been playing poker seriously since 1996 and he specializes in mixed games, particularly Omaha 8OB. This two-day event attracted a field of 26 players and they played down to the final six on Day 1. They returned today knowing that only the final four would make the money.

Umeme Hoye was the first player to fall today and then there was a long standoff on the money bubble before David Edgett was eliminated in fifth place. He was followed to the rail by two short-stacked players. Steven D’Argenio took fourth place, and Oscar Santana exited in third place to set up a final heads-up match between Winkelvoss and Scott Sharp.

Sharp held the lead when things got underway and Winkelvoss was all the way down to 20,000 with limits at 10,000-20,000 before he mounted a comeback. Winkelvoss got hot during a round of Stud 8OB to climb back to 100,000, and then he crippled Sharp when he made aces full of jacks to top the flush of his opponent in another Stud 8OB hand. It was Sharp who was down to 20,000 at that point, and that was when the two players decided to a chop that crowned Winkelvoss the winner of the tournament.

“I think they do a good job here, and I hope they keep it up,” said Winkelvoss when asked about the availability of mixed-game tournaments at the Seminole Hard Rock. Winkelvoss also had high praise for his final opponent. The two play together quite a bit, and their comfort level with each other was apparent in the final match. “Scott’s a very good player, we play together a lot,” said Winkelvoss.

Final Table Results:

1st: Ronald “Wink” Winkelvoss – $2,409
2nd: Scott Sharp – $2,100
3rd: Oscar Santana – $1,193
4th: Steven D’Argenio – $928
