WPTDeepStacks Day 1B: Take Another Break

$1,100 WPTDeepStacks NLH (Single Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 6: 150/300 with a 50 ante
Flight B Entries: 360 (Total Entries: 729)

Michael Newman

Flight B players are hitting the exits and will have a chance to relax for 15 minutes on their second break of the day. We expected to see a smaller number in today’s flight over yesterday’s but it’s looking like we’ll easily top the 369 entries from Flight A.

That’s a great pace for the $1 Million Guarantee.

We found SHRP regular Michael Newman in today’s crowd and he is our most recent big champion. Newman captured the biggest title of his career when he won the 2017 RRPO Championship in November for just shy of $375,000.

More than ten times his next biggest cash.

It’s no wonder Newman is all smiles.

Level 1: 25/50

The second day of the 2018 Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open will award the second trophy of the series later today. Some players will be concentrating on the WPTDeepStacks event in the ballroom but some of the elder generation will be battling it out in the Seniors event across the hallway.

The LHPO Seniors event has a $300 buy-in and is only open to those who are 50 years or older. They will be checking IDs at the registration desk for those trying to increase their age to play, so don’t get frisky.

Entrants will begin with 10,000 stacks and play 30-minute levels during the tournament. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 3:30 pm and there will be a dinner break following Level 12 at 5:30 pm.

When all is done, we will crown our second LHPO champion of the series and a very happy senior.

  • Players begin with 10,000 in chips and 30-minute levels
  • Late registration/re-entry available until start of Level 9
  • This is a one-day tournament and plays until completion
  • Event 3 Structure Sheet

Much of our live reporting efforts will be concentrated on Flight B of the WPTDeepStacks. As far as the Seniors, we’ll provide updates when registration closes, when the 10-handed final table is reached and post the final results and a winner photo after the event concludes.

Flight A drew 369 entries to the $1,000,000 Guarantee, $1,100 buy-in tournament to put the field on pace to reach the seven-digit prize pool mark. It should be another great turnout with a massive number expected on Saturday.

Tournament players sit down to 25,000 starting stacks and the tournament runs 40-minute levels from start to finish. Late registration is available until the start of Level 10 after a one-hour dinner break with players limited to a single re-entry option if they bust out.

Flight B will continue through 15 full levels with all survivors joining the 68 from Flight A for Day 2 on Sunday at noon. Cards fly at 11 am and we’ll be here all day long.

Jorge Gomez

Former SHRP champ Jorge Gomez made a late move as the clock was running down and he found a good time for a monster.

He was involved in a four-way all in and his KhKc was ahead of John Binn’s 6d6c with the button’s As8d and big blind’s AdKd in trouble. The 4d3d3c2cTc board was safe to send two out and catapult Gomez into the lead.

Dani Dayan continues to lead with 250,000 but Justin Harvell is closing on the top of the counts with 240,000 in late action. He made a final table tournament in each of our last two series as part of a streak that had him book six straight final table cashes.

Event 2: Michael Moed Captures another Omaha/8 Title

Michael Moed, Event 2 champion

The first day of the 2018 Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open series kicked off with the multi-day WPTDeepStacks event but we also awarded our first trophy. Event 2 was a one-day trophy tournament that featured the popular four-card game Limit Omaha/8. By the time it was complete, local regular Michael Moed added another Omaha/8 title to his credit along with the $4,000 payout.

Event 2 drew 368 split-pot enthusiasts and they built the prize pool up to nearly $20,000 by the time the $300 buy-in tournament closed registration. The tournament quickly played down from that point with only 12 players remaining at the dinner break and 10 of them set to earn some money.

It took one level after the return to form the final table ten and Moed was joined by fellow SHRP winner David Shmuel, a player who captured two titles himself during the 2017 RRPO series. Other regulars Carey Pickus and Philippe Goureau also made the money but could not book the win.

After Jordan Stone was eliminated in sixth place, the five remaining players worked out an ICM deal to divide up the remaining prize pool and Moed earned another win as the chip leader.

This tournament title was the tenth of his career and his eighth Omaha/8 victory. Six of those Omaha/8 titles came right here in SHRP games along with a dozen final tables. The win pushed Moed further over the $200,000 mark in career earnings and a nice little boost as he prepares for an expanded family.

Moed and his wife Angela, a very talented player herself, are expecting their second child in a few months and he is excited to meet the newest member of his family.

Congratulations to Michael on his continued dominance of the Omaha/8 games and good luck to the growing family.

Final results:

1st: Michael Moed – $4,000 + Trophy*
2nd: David Shmuel – $3,384*
3rd: Donald Maloney – $3,225*
4th: Philippe Goureau – $2,723*
5th: Carey Pickus – $2,579*
6th: Jordan Stone – $995
7th: Jason Lopesilvero – $895
8th: Joel Farris – $796
9th: Cheryl Eldridge – $696
10th: Jason Balcaitis – $597
