Event 10 was moving toward its first break of the day when there was a commotion in the back of the room. Marty Robbins was very, very happy. Really happy.

We got to the table with the board already out and the dealer counting down chip stacks.

“You really made me think you didn’t have aces,” Robbins said to Reinaldo Troconis.

“Just bad luck.”

That exchange was prompted by Robbins’ face up KhKs as the winning hand against AhAs when a king ended up on the river with the board reading Ts8h2s7dKc.

It was a huge hand and Robbins had Troconis barely covered, but enough to put him among the leaders heading into the first break.

Marty Robbins – 715,000

Checking in on the bounty tournament on the other side of the room, Event 11 more than doubled it’s $30,000 before the first break and a triple up is now in play.

SHRP regular Zoltan Czinkota is already freerolling the rest of the tournament and moved his starting stack up to 75,000 over the first four levels.

Top fives stacks after break:

Zoltan Czinkota – 75,000 (250 bb)
David Maddox – 54,125 (180 bb)
Marc Sacheli – 53,000 (177 bb)
Kevin Smith – 53,000 (177 bb)
Mitchell Weinberger – 51,000 (170 bb)

Event 10: Maddah and Dawley Eliminated

Wally Maddah

The Event 10 field lost two more members of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker team. Jessica Dawley was seen chatting with Asher Conniff on her way out the door and she was followed soon by Wally Maddah.

He put in his last ten big blinds with AhQc then saw another shove behind him and a call from a bigger stack. The player to his left showed AdKd and the big stacked tabled TsTd to put Maddah in deep trouble.

The tens flopped a set on the JdTh6c board to leave the two smaller stacks looking at a game-saving Broadway gutshot draw. The 2c turn was a blank and there was a double KO, including Maddah, on the 5s river.

Someone always shows up late to the restarts, it’s a given. In the big field Event 5 restart, Alex Oliveira never showed up and his stack went out on the stone-cold bubble.

Today that player is Taylor Wilson. His stack began the day with 170,000 but it’s slowly dwindly with the rest of the field.

The pace of play has been pretty quick at the start of the day. The field lost more than 100 players over the first 40-minute level including Darryll Fish and Charlemagne Benjamin.

Nicholas Mahabee is doing just fine today. He has some recent experience conquering big, multi-day tournament when he won the opening event of the series over more than 2,500 players.

After a quick reading of the rules, tournament staff put cards in the air for the start of Day 2.

Rob Jaenicke was at his seat early and began the process of building his chip castle. He also has an interesting table with Ari Engel, Seminole Hard Rock team member Darryll Fish, and micro-stacked Kevin Novorro to his right.

With the addition of the $360 Black Chip Bounty event running on the other side of the room, every single poker table in the ballroom is in use at this time.

Day 1 took six starting flights to whittle down the field and now all those who made it through the first 14 levels will join together as one today in the ballroom. Event 10 drew more than 2,700 entrants with only 516 of those players still around today with a chance at the title.

They created a prize pool worth $1,362,000 to easily surpass the $1,000,000 Guarantee. The last 250 players will each earn a piece with a min-cash taking home $1,144 while everyone is looking at the $236,942 up top for the winner.

Rob Jaenicke leads the way but he’s joined by Nick Palma with stacks that tower over the rest of the field. Each is more than 130K clear of third place Matthew Yorra but there’s a long way to go before the matter is settled.

Seminole Hard Rock Poker team member Matt Affleck sits in the top ten with other pros such as Chris Hunichen, Ryan Van Sanford, Brian Hastings, and Ari Engel all within striking distance.

They’ll return to Level 15 and blinds at 1,500/3,000 with a 500 ante. The average stack at the restart is 106,000 (35 big blinds) and we expect to hit the money before the second break. Levels will run 40 minutes today until they reach the final table, then they switch to 60-minute levels until we have a winner.

Players are entering the ballroom to unbag their chips and cards will fly very soon.

Top ten returning stacks:

Rob Jaenicke – 465,500 (155 bb)
Nick Palma – 460,000 (153 bb)
Matthew Yorra – 332,500 (111 bb)
Angelo Miele Jr – 315,000 (105 bb)
Matt Affleck – 310,500 (104 bb)
Frankie Flowers – 306,000 (102 bb)
David Lithgow – 304,000 (101 bb)
William Pappas – 296,000 (99 bb)
Aryeh Cohen – 292,000 (97 bb)
Chris Hunichen – 270,000 (90 bb)

Today’s $30,000 guaranteed prize pool was never in question from the moment cards when in the air. The $360 Black Chip Bounty event brought players out early on a Sunday morning/afternoon and the guarantee was topped minutes after rolling into the second level of the day.

“We’re going to triple that guarantee,” said one player as he set his line.

Former SHRP champion Eric Piderit is one of early players and looking to add another trophy to his 2013 Lucky Hearts Poker Open title.

Event 11: Black Chip Bounty

Level 1: 25/50

It’s bounty time in the ballroom. For while most of the ballroom will be taken up by the Event 10 restart, the two new events on the schedule today put a price on each player’s head.

Event 11 is a $360 buy-in tournament where $100 of each entry is paid to the person who knocks that player out. A player could very well be making a profit long before they hit the payout portion from the normal prize pool.

The tournament has a $30,000 guaranteed prize pool and each entrant starts with a 15,000 stack out front. The one-day tournament will play 30-minute levels throughout and late registration is open until the start of Level 9 at 4:30pm.

It will be a fast moving affair with the added incentive to loosen up to collect those $100 cash chips and we’ll have our next new champion in no time.

  • Players begin with 15,000 in chips and 30-minute levels
  • Late registration/re-entry available until start of Level 9
