Justin Swilling started a hot streak before dinner, and he had built his stack up to more than a million in chips at the break.

Swilling’s hot streak continues as he has just knocked out another player to build his stack up near 1.4 million, which easily leads the field.

Championship Day 2: Level 17 Begins

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 17: 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 89 of 847

The players return from dinner to begin Level 17, with increased blinds of 4,000/8,000 and a 1,000 ante. With 89 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 286,000 (36 big blinds).

The field is in the money, and the remaining players are all guaranteed at least $11,250 each. The next pay jump is $12,500 for 81st place.

Championship Day 2: Jean Gaspard Up to 550K

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 16: 3,000/6,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 95 of 847

After a flop of 8d4c2c, Jean Prince Gaspard bet 33,000 from middle position, and Lexy Gavin called from the button. The turn card was the 10c, Gaspard bet 54,000, and Gavin tanked for a long time before she called.

The river card was the Jh, Gaspard bet 68,000, and Gavin thought for a little while before she folded. Gaspard took the pot.

Jean Prince Gaspard  –  550,000  (92 bb)
Lexy Gavin  –  350,000  (58 bb)

Championship Day 2: Brian Wachs Saved by a Reraise

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 16: 3,000/6,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 95 of 847

A player raised under the gun to 18,000, the UTG+1 player called, and Brian Wachs moved all in from the button for about 80,000. The big blind moved all in for about 350,000, covering everyone else in the pot.

The original raiser folded, and the UTG+1 player tanked for a long time before folding QhQc face up with about 160,000 behind. There was some shock at the table, and that player wasn’t pleased to see Wachs show AsKs and the big blind turn over AdKc.

Wachs thanked the big blind for forcing the third player to fold, greatly increasing his chances of remaining in the tournament.

The board came 10c4d2h4c5h, with the UTG+1 player shouting for an ace to appear to give him some solace for folding his pocket queens. As for Wachs and the big blind, it was a chopped pot.

Brian Wachs  –  100,000  (17 bb)

Championship Day 2: Sunny Patel Bounces Back to 465K

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 15: 2,500/5,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 114 of 847

A player moved all in UTG+1 for 71,000, and Sunny Patel called with QsQc. The UTG+1 player turned over AhKc, and needed to improve to stay alive.

The board came Qh10d6c5s5c — the short stack flopped a gutshot straight draw, but improved no further. Patel won the pot with a rivered full house, queens full of fives, to eliminate his opponent.

Sunny Patel  –  465,000  (93 bb)

Championship Day 2: Lexy Gavin Retakes the Chip Lead

The final 10-15 minutes of Level 14 were not kind to Sunny Patel, who dropped from 675K to 383K. That left Lexy Gavin as the only player with more than 600,000 in chips for the second break in a row, and she is our official chipleader.

Championship Day 2: Big Stacks in the Field

Level 14: 2,000/4,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 135 of 847

The small blind raised to 12,000, Lexy Gavin reraised from the big blind to 30,500, and the small blind called. The flop came AdJd10c, the small blind checked, Gavin bet 30,500, and the small blind folded. Gavin took the pot to increase her stack to about 665,000.

But a scan of the chipleaders in the field makes it look like Gavin is slightly behind the new chipleader, Sunny Patel, who has about 675,000. Here’s a look at most of the big stacks in the field as the field begins their second break of the day:

Sunny Patel  –  675,000  (169 bb)
Lexy Gavin  –  665,000  (166 bb)
David Wolff  –  590,000  (148 bb)
Michael Newman  –  510,000  (128 bb)
Zo Karim  –  495,000  (124 bb)
Jaime Lewin  –  470,000  (118 bb)
Sam Ho  –  415,000  (104 bb)

Championship Day 2: Jim Carroll Out Right Before the Bubble

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 14: 2,000/4,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 151 of 847

A player raised under the gun to 9,000, and Jim Carroll moved all in from middle position for 10,500. The button called, Joe Kuether  called from the big blind, and the UTG player tanked for a surprisingly long time before realizing that he didn’t have the option to reraise — he could either call another 1,500 or fold. He called.

The flop came Ah10h6s, and it checked to the player on the button, who moved all in for 30,500. Kuether, who had 33,000 behind, went into the tank.

At the start of the hand, the tournament clock showed 154 players remaining in the field, and only 150 would finish in the money. Carroll said, “Take your time, guys. Maybe about four more players?”

Kuether eventually folded, and Carroll showed Ks10s for a pair of tens. But the button turned over Ad10c for two pair, aces and tens, and Carroll was drawing thin.

The turn was the 9c, and the river was the Kh — Carroll rivered two pair, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the tournament. Carroll was eliminated in 152nd place.

With 151 players remaining, TD Tony Burns announces that the dealers should finish the current hand and then stop so hand-for-hand play can begin on the Money Bubble
