Championship Day 2: Jim Carroll Out Right Before the Bubble

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 14: 2,000/4,000 with a 500 ante
Players Remaining: 151 of 847

A player raised under the gun to 9,000, and Jim Carroll moved all in from middle position for 10,500. The button called, Joe Kuether  called from the big blind, and the UTG player tanked for a surprisingly long time before realizing that he didn’t have the option to reraise — he could either call another 1,500 or fold. He called.

The flop came Ah10h6s, and it checked to the player on the button, who moved all in for 30,500. Kuether, who had 33,000 behind, went into the tank.

At the start of the hand, the tournament clock showed 154 players remaining in the field, and only 150 would finish in the money. Carroll said, “Take your time, guys. Maybe about four more players?”

Kuether eventually folded, and Carroll showed Ks10s for a pair of tens. But the button turned over Ad10c for two pair, aces and tens, and Carroll was drawing thin.

The turn was the 9c, and the river was the Kh — Carroll rivered two pair, but it wasn’t enough to keep him in the tournament. Carroll was eliminated in 152nd place.

With 151 players remaining, TD Tony Burns announces that the dealers should finish the current hand and then stop so hand-for-hand play can begin on the Money Bubble
