James Salmon (Plantation, FL)
21st-Place Finisher James Salmon (Plantation, FL)

After short-stacked Kent Taepakdee busted in 22nd place on the first or second half after dinner, James Salmon hit the rail in 21st place when he ran Kh5h into the A-A of Nigel Murray.

Kent Taepakdee  –  Eliminated in 22nd Place  ($2,075)
James Salmon  –  Eliminated in 21st Place  ($2,075)

Then Gil Morgensztern and chipleader Lisa Teebagy saw a flop of Qh8c2d, and Morgensztern shoved the cutoff for 243,000 with Ah10h (ace high). Teebagy called with Qs4s (pair of queens), and Morgensztern needed to improve to stay alive.

The turn was the 7s, the river was the Ks, and Teebagy won the pot with her pair of queens to eliminate Morgensztern in 20th place.

Lisa Teebagy  –  2,825,000  (118 bb)
Gil Morgensztern  –  Eliminated in 20th Place  ($2,075)

Shortly after that, Denis Cyr hit the rail in 19th place, and the field was down to the final two tables.

Event 5: Lots of Action at Final 3 Tables

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 23:  10,000/20,000/3,000 ante

When the field reached the final 27 players, they redrew for random seats at the final three tables.

Ory Hen has been on a heater this level, and it started on the turn of a board showing Qh7h2d6h. Hen checked the big blind, the UTG+1 player bet 140,000, and Hen check-raised all in for 522,000. His opponent called with 6d6c for a set of sixes, but Hen turned over Ah8h for an ace-high flush.

The river card was the 8s, and the flush held up for Hen to win the pot and double up in chips. (His opponent was knocked down to less than a single big blind, and busted two hands later in 26th place.)

Ory Hen  –  1,240,000  (62 bb)

At the next table, chipleader Lisa Teebagy took out another player, this time by cracking pocket aces.

Alfonso Perez got it all in on the turn of a board showing Js10s2s7d. Perez had AdAc for an overpair, and he needed to hold against Teebagy’s Qs6c (queen-high flush draw).

The river was the 5s, completing Teebagy’s flush to send Perez to the rail in 25th place.

Lisa Teebagy  –  2,375,000  (119 bb)
Alfonso Perez  –  Eliminated in 25th Place  ($2,075)

Oneil McCalla also had a premium hand cracked, but this time it was pocket kings.

Gil Morgensztern got it all in preflop with Ac2c, and he needed to improve to stay alive against McCalla’s KsKc. The board came Jc7s4s7cQc, and Morgensztern made an ace-high flush to win the pot and double up in chips.

Gil Morgensztern  –  435,000  (22 bb)
Oneil McCall  –  95,000  (5 bb)

Then there was a classic race at Table 16, with Gunther Rowohlt all in preflop for 477,000 with QsQc against the AhKh of Tom Clements.

The board came 9s9d8h3h6s, and the pocket queens held up for Rowohlt to win the pot and double up in chips.

Gunther Rowohlt  –  990,000  (50 bb)
Tom Clements  –  227,000  (11 bb)

A few moments later, Sebastien Kos and Ory Hen were battling over a board of Kd8h7s4s. Kos got it all in on the turn with 8c7c for two pair, and he needed it to hold to stay alive against Hen’s KsJs (pair of kings).

The river card paired the board with the 4d, counterfeiting Kos’s two pair to give the pot to Hen. Kos was eliminated in 24th place.

Ory Hen  –  2,000,000  (100 bb)
Sebastien Kos  –  Eliminated in 24th Place  ($2,075)

Moments after Kos was eliminated, Clements was sent to the rail in 23rd place.

Tom Clements  –  Eliminated in 24th Place  ($2,075)

With 22 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 755,000 (381 big blinds).

The field is knocking on the door of the final three tables, when everyone will redraw for new seats. At that point we will begin tracking everyone in the field.

The chipleader appears to be Lisa Teebagy, with 1,420,000 (89 big blinds). We’ll get a full round of official chip counts at the dinner break, which should be at 7:25 pm.

John Holley
30th-Place Finisher John Holley

John Holley, fresh off his victory in Event 7, was just eliminated from Event 5. Nigel Murray opened the button in front of him, and Holley looked down in the big blind to find Q-Q. Unfortunately for him, Murray held A-A. The best hand held up, and Holley was eliminated in 30th place.

With 28 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 593,000 (37 big blinds).

Event 7: John Holley Wins!

$350 No Limit Hold’em 6-Max (Single Re-Entry)
Level 21:  5,000/10,000/1,000 Ante

John Holley
Event 7 Champion John Holley

Shortly after the blinds increased to 5,000-10,000 with a 1,000 ante, John Holley and Engelberth Varela got it all in after a flop of 10c7d2h.

Holley was the shorter stack, all in for 148,000 with 8s7s for a pair of sevens. Varela had 8c2c for a pair of deuces, and Holley needed his hand to hold to stay alive.

The turn was the 4d, the river was the 10s, and Holley won the pot with his pair of sevens to double back into the chip lead.

John Holley  –  351,000  (44 bb)
Engelberth Varela  –  169,000  (21 bb)

It was only a few minutes later that Holley limped from the button for 10,000, Varela moved all in, and Holley snap-called with 10h10d. Varela turned over AdQs, and he needed to improve to stay alive.

The board came Jh10s9h3cQd — Varela flopped an open-ended straight draw, but never caught up to Holley’s flopped set of tens. Varela was eliminated, finishing as the runner-up in second place.

Engelberth Varela  –  Eliminated in 2nd Place  ($3,588)

With that pot, John Holley won the title, the Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open” trophy, and a custom-framed winner’s photo courtesy of Image Masters.

Congratulations to John Holley!

Level 20:  4,000/8,000/1,000 Ante

John Holley
John Holley stares down Engelberth Varela.

After the blinds increased to 4,000-8,000 with a 1,000 ante. John Holley raised from the button to 20,000, Engelberth Varela moved all in for 198,000, and Holley called with Qh9h. Varela turned over AhJh, and he needed his hand to hold to stay alive.

The board came AsKh2d6d8c, and Varela paired his ace on the flop to win the pot and double up in chips.

Engelberth Varela  –  398,000  (50 bb)
John Holley  –  122,000  (15 bb)

A short while later, Varela moved all in from the button, and Holley called all in for 114,000 with Kh8h. Varela turned over 3h3d, and Holley needed to improve to stay alive.

The board came 10s8d4dKdKs, and Holley paired his eight on the flop, turned two pair, and rivered a full house to win the pot and double up in chips.

Engelberth Varela  –  290,000  (36 bb)
John Holley  –  230,000  (29 bb)

The next big hand had Holley all in for 175,000 with QsQd, and he needed his hand to hold to stay alive against Varela’s 9s9c.

The board came 10c6h4dJs3c, and the pocket queens held up for Holley to win the pot and double back into the chip lead.

Engelberth Varela  –  168,000  (21 bb)
John Holley  –  352,000  (44 bb)

Varela dropped a bit from there before getting it all in for 136,000 with AsKs, and he was a dominating favorite against Holley’s Ad10d.

The board came 10c9c7cKdQs — Holley paired his ten on the flop, but Varela paired his king on the turn to stay alive and double up in chips.

Engelberth Varela  –  274,000  (34 bb)
John Holley  –  246,000  (31 bb)

With that, the two players were nearly even in chips.

Event 7: Sean Siegenthaler Out in 3rd ($2,340)

Level 19:  3,000/6,000/1,000 Ante

John Holley raised from the button to 16,000, Sean Siegenthaler moved all in from the small bind for 63,000, and Holley called with Kd8d. Siegenthaler turned over 2s2h, and needed his hand to hold to stay alive.

The board came 10s10h3d8c9h, and Holley paired his eight on the turn to win the pot and eliminate Siegenthaler in third place.
