ICYMI: Chris Moneymaker Headlines First Day of Series

Chris Moneymaker wins $360 Omaha hi-lo

On Wednesday, the 2018 Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open” kicked off the series with two starting flights of the $1,000,000 Guarantee opening event and a one-day Limit Omaha/8 tournament.

Before the start of the day, the story of Day 1 looked like it would be the big crowd for Event 1 but it was 2003 WSOP Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker making some noise before the day was complete.

His Moneymaker Tour wrapped up last weekend, a tournament that saw him finish as the runner-up, and he stuck around for a few days. Moneymaker played in our Feeding South Florida charity event, won that one, and entered the Limit Omaha/8 tournament.

He rolled right through the 92-entry field, hit the final table with the chip lead, and dominated to win the first trophy of the series. Moneymaker is sticking around one more day and will take his shot at the H.O.R.S.E. tournament this afternoon.

On a side note, Moneymaker is the third WSOP Main Event winner to earn a major SHRP trophy; Joe McKeehen won a title during Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in 2017 and Ryan Riess picked up his third this past August.

Event 2 results:

1st: Chris Moneymaker – $9,136

Carlo Rodriguez

As for the first two flights of Event 1, they combined to draw 621 entries for a great start to the series with the numbers expected to swell as we roll into the weekend.

Carlo Rodriguez built the biggest bag in Flight A followed closely by 2018 WSOP Circuit Coco Casino Champ Martin Ryan. His lead lasted exactly one flight until Marc Bronstein passed him in Flight B to become the overnight leader.

We saw 90 players advance to Day 2 on Sunday and we have six more flights for others to join them. Two flights run each day between now and Saturday at 11am and 6pm.

Top ten stacks through Flight B:

  1. Marc Bronstein – 434,500
