“One and Done” Satellites Explained

Matt Savage and Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Poker Director Bill Mason oversee the “One and Done” satellite

This morning’s SHRPO Championship satellite is a new format and we are running it for the first time. The “One and Done” satellite is an innovative structure that rewards aggressive play, eliminates short-stack stalling, and now the bubble hand-for-hand process is a thing of the past.

The first change will be evident after registration is closed and we know how many seats will be awarded. That number will determine when we start rewarding the big stacks with seats. When we reach that predetermined point, the current chip leader will be removed and awarded a seat at each table break.

It will continue that way each table break, the current chip leader pulled and awarded a seat until the number of players remaining equals the number of players left to be eliminated to put the rest of the field “in the money”.

At that point, the remaining players will redraw seats at the final tables and it will play like a reverse shootout. Each table will continue until one person is eliminated and the rest of the players at that table will earn a Championship seat.

For example, if the 11 am satellite gets exactly 200 entries, it will award 20 Championship seats. When 18 players remain, the reverse shootout tables will redraw for two tables of nine and award 16 of those players with seats. That leaves four seats to be awarded and they will go to the chip leaders when the tournament breaks a table at 54, 45, 36, and 27 players remaining.

If you have any questions at all, feel free to stop by the tournament information desk or floor supervisor.

Good luck!
