Just because there are a couple hundred players aiming for the Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘n’ Roll Poker Open” Championship title, that doesn’t mean the rest of the players are twiddling their thumbs up in the hotel room.

We have a nice group of players in the $350 Big Stack Event 9 and now see some big names taking part in the new $1,650 Purple Chip Bounty event in the other corner. More than a few players have taken a seat in that game after dropping out of the Championship including Sheddy Siddiqui, Scott Efron, and 2010 WSOP Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel.

This big buy-in tournament is set to run as a two-day event with a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool. There are 80 entrants in early going and late registration/re-entry is available until 9pm this evening.

We still have a chance for a back-to-back champion in this event but Chris Bolek will have to grind his stack back into contention.

The 2014 champ began the day with 150,000 and dropped a third of that by the first break and soon found himself with only 12,000 remaining. Bolek found a more-than-double up when his QsTc flopped trip Queens and turned a boat.

Level 13 comes to an end, and Level 14 begins with increased blinds of 1,200-2,400 and a 400 ante. With about 170 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 135,000 (56 big blinds).

The final 72 players will finish in the money, guaranteed at least $7,108. We expect the Money Bubble to burst before the end of the day.

There will be a 90-minute dinner break after Level 16, and action will continue tonight until the end of Level 20 (about 12:15 am).

Championship Day 2: Dan Shak vs. Bruce Kramer

Level 13:  1,000/2,000/300 Ante

With the board showing AhAc3c2d on the turn, Bruce Kramer bet 15,000 from middle position, and Dan Shak moved all in from the cutoff for about 58,000.

Kramer tanked for a while before he folded, saying, “If you have the ace, I’m dead.” Shak showed AsQh for trip aces as he took the pot.

Dan Shak  –  140,000  (70 bb)
Bruce Kramer  –  68,000  (34 bb)

We’re happy to have the Poker Night in America gang back in town this series and their full production crew. The Championship final table will meet up with them on Wednesday but they are taping their popular cash games until then.

The buy-in (and invitation) can be steep for some but we offered up a cost-effective way for some of our regulars to jump in. Ten players sat down for a $1,010 Sit n Go where it was winner-take-all and a seat in the cash game with the $10,000.

Seat 1: Trevor Doughty
Seat 2: TJ Shulman
Seat 3: Cornel Cimpan
Seat 4: Greg Marcus
Seat 5: Michael Kane
Seat 6: Asher Conniff
Seat 7: Eric Piderit
Seat 8: Micah Raskin
Seat 9: William Benson
Seat 10: Michael Lipman

It moved along quickly and it was Greg Marcus outlasting everyone else to earn a seat in the big, televised, live-streamed cash game.
