Championship Day 1B: Mazen Abdallah Leads 184 Survivors

With another 10 levels in the books, both starting days are complete for the $3,500 WPT RRPO Championship. The second flight drew another 481 entries, bringing the total field size to 898. At the end of the day, the 481 was trimmed down to just 184 with Mazen Abdallah holding a commanding lead.

Abdallah finished with a massive stack of 469,500, which moves him ahead of Ajay Gnanasambanthan, who finished Day 1A with 364,500. Gnanasambanthan will start Day 2 second in chips.

Caufman Talley (265,000), Vinny Pahuja (263,500), Nick Yunis (261,000) and Nagui Yassa (258,500) round out the top five Day 1B stacks.

Other notables to finish the second starting flight with a ton of chips include Jeff Trudeau (250,500), Neil Blumenfield (244,000), Farid Jattin (237,000), Raminder Singh (233,500), Lily Kiletto (231,000), Athanasios Polychronopoulos (200,500), Paul Balzano (175,000), Nick Schwarmann (168,500), James Gilbert (164,500), Leif Force (156,000) and Tony Tran (153,500).

Not everybody was lucky enough to make it through the day with plenty of top talented pros falling before the day’s final hand. Ronnie Bardah, Scott Baumstein, James Salmon, Jacquelyn Scott, Francis Margaglione, Wally Maddah, Allen Kessler and Jared Jaffee were among today’s notable eliminations.

Between the 184 players that made it through Saturday’s action and the 149 players that survived Friday, there will be 333 players coming back on Sunday for Day 2. Cards will get back in the air at noon and they will play 10 more, 60-minute levels.

Championship Day 1B: Justin Liberto Gets a Much-Needed Double

Justin Liberto raised to 7,000 from early position, leaving himself with just 5,900 behind. The player in the hijack called and everybody else got out of the way.

The flop was Jh3s2s and Liberto moved the rest of his chips into the middle. The hijack called.

Liberto showed KcQh and needed to make a pair against the hijack’s 6s6h.

The turn was the 7c, keeping the hijack in the lead, but the river was the Qh. Liberto spiked the queen on the river to double up.

On the turn with the board reading QsTd5s6c, Lily Kiletto bet 15,000 out of the big blind, which was nearly a pot-sized bet.

Her lone opponent was in middle position and took about a minute of thought before calling. The river was the 6h and Kiletto checked. Her opponent checked behind.

She immediately groaned when her opponent checked behind and she snap-tabled AdQd.

“I was hoping he would bet something,” said Kiletto after the hand.

“You get people to fold when your bluffing and you get people to call when you have it,” said another player at the table. “How do you do it.”

Kiletto is over 200,000 and one of the bigger stacks in the room with about 30 minutes left in the level and the day.

The top 113 players will finish in the money with a min-cash worth $5,845 with the payouts building up to the $504,820 first place money.

The turn was the 2h and Trudeau checked again. Foxen bet 7,700 and Trudeau called. The river was the 9s and both players checked.

Trudeau showed 4s3s and Foxen mucked his hand.

They both checked the Ac turn card and the Js came on the river. Emmett bet 17,000 and the cutoff thought for a few moments before folding.

Emmett showed AsAd, good for quad aces, and he took the pot just before the break.

Bader checked again and Bicknell bet 12,000. Bader called and the river was the 4h.

Bader checked and Bicknell bet 25,000. Bader called. Bicknell showed JsJh and Bader quickly turned over QsQd. Bicknell immediately turned her hand face-down and sent it into the muck.

Bader took the pot and moved over the 100,000-chip plateau, while Bicknell was left with a few big blinds.
