$250 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 12: 800/1,600/200 Ante
Reigning WPT Player of the Year Mukul Pahuja, who has earned more than $1.6 million in poker tournaments here at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, is in Flight 1B of Event 1.
As they near the final break of the night, Pahuja has an above-average count of 66,000 (41 big blinds).
Flight 1C is headed to its first break of the evening. 163 entires have been tallied as we reach the end of Level 4. Players can re-enter up until the start of Level 7 so there’s still plenty of time to get into the action tonight.
We’ve now crossed the 150 entry barrier here in Flight 1C. The count currently stands at 153 and with the largest flight so far at 174, this could end up being Event 1’s biggest turnout so far. This should also being some major excitement for the amount of entries in Flight’s 1D, 1E and 1F tomorrow.
If you’ve been to any series here at Seminole Hard Rock, you know the ballroom has two giant projection screen TV’s to keep players entertainted between hands. Usually, these are turned to sports programming and tonight will be no exception as the NCAA Mens’ Basketball Championship between Duke and Wisconsin will be capturing everyone’s attention.
But the room was thrown into a panic as a member of the tournament staff preventitavely put CBS on the screens putting the sitcom “Mike and Molly” on. Many players freaked out not realizing the game’s coverage on CBS would be starting shortly prompting repeated calls to the floor.
Rest assured, everyone in the room will be treated to what should be an outstanding championship game – after these messages.
One indicator that the Big Stack Omaha 8B started with deep stacks is the fact that not a single player busted during the registration period (first six levels), which effectively negated the re-entry aspect of this event.
The field of 51 is now down to the final four tables (31 players), and action will continue tonight until they burst the Money Bubble — which also happens to be the final table. (Nine spots get paid.)
Ari Engel is still alive, though short with just 4,000 in chips (two big bets). He bagged up chips to reach Day 2 of Event 1, and now he’s trying to go 2-for-2 by doing the same thing in Event 2.
Robert Campbell is notable for having 11 career victories in Omaha hi-lo events. Unfortunately, Campbell will not be adding a 12th Omaha title tomorrow, as he was just eliminated.
There was not a lot of supsense about making Event 1’s guarantee but having it happen early in the third flight out of six was quite the surprise.
With the 133rd entrant into Flight 1C, the $100,000 guarantee for this event has already been met. This should set the stage for a massive prize pool for everyone to chase the rest of the night and the flights tomorrow at 11 AM, 3 PM and 7 PM.
Just a level and a half in and the action has already heated up. Daren Stabinsky got sent to back to the registration desk after flopping trip sevens on a board only to run into an oppenent holding pocket queens for a full house. Stabinski has already taken a new seat to give it another run tonight.
On the positive side, 122 entries have already been recorded only halfway through Level 2 here in Flight 1C. Registration remains open until the start of Level 7.
Three of the top regular players at the Seminole Hard Rock are back in action here in Flight 1C. Past event champions Nigel Murray and Darin Stabinski are seated as well as Pasquale Caiazza who has an outstanding series here last February at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open. With more top players to come, it should be a challenging night for everyone looking to advance tonight.
$250 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry) Level 15: 1,500/3,000/500 Ante
Flight 1A came to an end around 6:45 pm, and the chipleader is Philippe Goureau with 215,800 (71 big blinds). There were 22 survivors from a flight of 170 entries, and the average chip stack is about 93,000 (31 big blinds).
Philippe Goureau – 215,000 John DePersio – 195,000 Anthony Ocampo – 172,000 Daniel Orgil – 165,500 Steve Karp – 139,500 Robert Zuckerman – 118,500 Jack Rolnitzky – 112,000 Eric Moore – 93,500 Ari Engel – 88,000 Phil Rigby – 86,000 Robert Wiercinski – 81,500 Charlie Sickmeir – 81,000 Vicki Holmes – 80,500 Jorge Gomez – 69,500 David Light – 59,000 D.J. Players who survive to Day 2 can not play in any of the remaining Day 1 flights. They had the option of forfeiting their stack at the end of the day to try again, but nobody took that option at the end of play today.
These players have tomorrow off, and will return on Wednesday at 1:00 pm to begin Day 2. It’s worth noting that Ari Engel is playing in both of today’s events, and now that he has bagged chips in Event 1, he can place all of his focus on Event 2, which will play down to the final table tonight.
Event 1’s third flight is underway. The players are just filtering in to take their shot at the opening event title and their piece of the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool. After 344 entries to start off the day, we’re well on our way to a huge payday for a miniscule $250 buy-in.
