Sam Soverel eliminated in 7th place

Sam Soverel was in early position and open-jammed for 1,875,000. Action was on Ben Tarzia in the cutoff and he called putting Soverel at risk against at least one opponent. Matthew Haugen folded the button and Tim Reilly and Justin Young let go of their blinds. Soverel needed to improve against Tarzia.

Tarzia: QhQd
Soverel: AdJd

The Kh3c2h flop improved neither player. The Qc turn gave Tarzia a set and left Soverel drawing to one of four 10s in the deck. Fifth street fell the 5h — a brick. Soverel busted 7th earning $110,357.

The remaining six players are now on a short break while production staff prepares the set for six-handed play.

Event 28 was one of the last big buy-in tournaments on the schedule and they played a little of the $2,200 four-card variety of the game. The tournament drew 79 PLO lovers to create a $158,000 prize pool.

The last nine players earned a piece of the money and they are about to return to play it down. Two-time WSOP winner (and WPT champ) Scott Clements comes back today with the lion’s share of the chips. He has 732,000 of the 3,160,000 chips in play with the rest split between the other eight players.

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Team Member Chance Kornuth sits in second position with 213,000 but the rest will need to make something happen in a hurry if they want the trophy later today.

They are unbagging their chips and will be back underway shortly.

The first order of business is getting them into the money. Only 36 of them will earn a piece of the $75,000 prize pool and they should get there in the early afternoon.

There are plenty of tough names still in the running including Eli Levy, three-time WSOP Circuit winner Nancy Birnbaum, and Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah.

Andrey Plotnikov eliminated in 8th place

After being crippled by Justin Young, Andrey Plotnikov was able to score a double and even picked up the blinds and antes after moving all-in and fading a call. It wasn’t long before he met his fate at the hands of start-of-day chip leader Hyoung Chae, though.

Plotnikov opened to 200,000, Chae three-bet to 2,000,000 and Plotnikov got his last 1,315,000 in the pot holding queens yet again — QsQd. He was in rough shape agains the AsAc of Chae. The runout came KcTh6s5hKd and Plotnikov busted 8th earning $87,880.

Championship: Kings vs. Queens; Young Doubles through Plotnikov

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship
Level 29: 40,000/80,000 with a 10,000 ante
Players Remaining: 8 of 1,222
Average Stack: 4,583,000 (57 bb)

Sam Soverel opened under the gun for 175,000. Andrey Plotnikov called as did Hyoung Chae and Ben Tarzia. It was on Tim Reilly on the button and he called as well. With five players in the pot, it was on Justin Young in the small blind and he three-bet to 1,140,000. Soverel folded as did Garrett Greer. It was back on Plotnikov and he shoved for 4,060,000. Chae took his time, but folded. Tarzie and Reilly mucked as well. It was back on Young and he called off his remaining 3,555,000.

Young: KcKd
Plotnikov: QhQd

The dealer burned and turned  an As7d3c2sTh board. Young’s kings held and the rail erupted in cheer. He doubled through Plotnikov who’s now the short stack at the table.
