In a three-way pot, Seminole Hard Rock Poker team member Mike Laake checked a Ks7s5c flop from the small blind. Another player shoved for under 10,000 while John-Christian Templeton folded in late position. It was back on Laake and he called putting the player at risk.

Laake: KhQd for top pair
Opponent: 6d4s for an open-ended straight draw

The board completed with the Ts and Kc improving Laake to trips. With that, the team pro earned the pot and busted his lone opponent.

On the very next hand, this year’s SHRP Showdown Championship winner Justin Young opened to 2,000 and Laake three-bet to 5,500 from the button. Young defended and the pair saw a flop of Qc5d3d. Young checked and Laake C-bet for 4,700. Young folded and Laake earned his second consecutive pot.

Championship Day 1: Eddie Ochana Eliminated

SHRPO $5 Million GTD Championship
Level 7: 400/800 with a 100 ante
Players: 829

Eddie Ochana
Eddie Ochana

Chicago’s Eddie Ochana has enjoyed no shortage of success on the tournament felt. Ochana owns nearly $2,000,000 in earnings, much of which came following back-to-back 2nd- and 1st-place finishes in his hometown Chicago Poker Classic Main Event.

The Midwesterner’s journey down South was off to a decent start, but recently took a turn for the worst when he got the last of his short stack in holding 4s4d versus the 7s7c of an unknown opponent. A 9h8s6sTs8d runout left him busto and he headed toward the rail early in Level 7.

Ochana is a return guest to the Seminole Hard Rock and it’s likely he’ll be back in action during the other Big 4 events.
