Event 23: Iaron Lightbourne Doubles Up

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 7: 250/500 with a 75 ante
Players: 495

On the turn with the board reading 7c7d4h2c, the player in middle position checked and Iaron Lightbourne bet 2,100 from the hijack.

The river was the Ac and middle position moved all in for effectively Lightbourne’s last 5,700. Lightbourne immediately called and showed Ah7h, good for a full house.

“That was a bad river card for me,” said Lightbourne’s opponent, who showed Jc8c, having rivered a flush.

Lightbourne dragged the pot and doubled up.

Iaron Lighbourne – 21,000

Event 23: Colossus Champ Ben Keeline Eliminated

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400/50
Players: 474

This past summer, Ben Keeline, a down-on-his-luck poker pro, went from driving for Uber in his home state of Colorado to winning the 2016 World Series of Poker $565 Colossus II for $1 million. It was one of the “feel good” stories of the summer.

Keeline, who will be taking his first trip to Europe to play poker later this month, was here at SHRPO looking for more success, but he’s not going to find it in this event as he was just eliminated in the last hand of Level 6.

It happened when Greg Spinder opened for 1,000 from middle position and Keeline jammed for 8,400 from the hijack. The rest of the field folded and Spinder snap-called.

Spinder: AhAs
Keeline: KhJc

The 4s5hKs flop gave Keeline a little help, but he needed more to stay alive. The 9d turn wasn’t what he was looking for, and neither was the 5d river.

Greg Spinder – 30,000
Ben Keeline – Eliminated

Event 23: Jared Hamby vs. James Gilbert

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400 with a 50 ante
Players: 474

Jared Hamby
Jared Hamby

On a flop of Ah9h6h, Jared Hamby checked from the big blind and James Gilbert bet 1,000 from under the gun.

Hamby called and the turn was the 5c. Hamby checked and Gilbert bet again, this time it was 2,500. Hamby called and the river was the Qc.

Hamby led out for 5,000 and Gilbert tanked for a minute before tossing his hand into the muck. Gilbert still has plenty of chips and Hamby moved back over the 20,000 chip mark.

Jared Hamby – 23,500
James Gilbert – 49,500

Event 23: Chris Hunichen Eliminated

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400 with a 50 ante
Players: 474

Chris Hunichen raised to 7,000 from early position, leaving himself with 375 behind. A player in middle position called and everybody else got out of the way.

Hunichen moved his last 375 into the middle on a flop of Qd9d7h and his opponent called.

“You got anything?” asked Hunichen.

“I got a flush draw,” said his opponent.

Hunichen showed 3c3s and was technically in the lead, but had to fade a lot of cards against his opponent’s KdJd. The turn was the Kh, giving middle position the lead.

“I got one out,” said Hunichen.

Hunichen needed the 3h on the river to stay alive, but the 9s came on the river to send him to the rail.

Chris Hunichen – Eliminated

Event 23: WSOP APAC Champ Scott Davies Eliminated

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400/50
Players: 471

In October 2014, Scott Davies defeated Jack Salter to win the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Main Event for $850,000 and a gold bracelet.

Since then, he has been traveling the world playing poker, which included a visit to the 2016 SHRPO. Unfortunately for him, his hope of cashing this event just came crashing down.

We missed his demise, but he was kind enough to share some details after the fact. According to him, he was crippled after picking up QxQx. He raised to 1,000 from the cutoff, the player in the big blind three-bet to 3,000, and Davies shipped. His opponent, who as it turned out held KxKx, called off for 16,000 total and held.

In the very next hand, Scott Clements raised to 1,000 from middle position and then called when Davies jammed for 2,950 total from the hijack.

Clements: KxJx
Davies: Ax9x

Davies got it in good, but he failed to hold as the board ran out 4x4x8xJxJx.

Scott Davies – Eliminated

Event 23: Blake Bohn Continues to Rise

$2,650 No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 6: 200/400/50
Players: 471

A player in middle position opened for 1,200 and Minnesota’s Blake Bohn called from the button. Both blinds folded and it was heads-up action to the 4hJs3c flop.

Bohn proceeded to call a bet of 1,200, and then called when his opponent bet 2,000 on the 8h turn. When the 7h completed the board on the river, action went check-check.

“Nines,” declared the middle-position player before tabling the 9s9d. It was no good as Bohn held top pair with the Jd10d.

Blake Bohn – 70,000
