Hollywood, Fla. (January 13, 2017) – The first champion of the 2017 Lucky Hearts Poker Open came from Event 2, the $300 Seniors 50+ No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry). It drew 76 entries and generated a prize pool of $19,380. After more than 12 hours of play, 54-year-old Patrick Maguire outlasted the field and collected a first-place payday of $6,783.

Maguire isn’t an avid poker player, but likes to dabble on the felt from time to time. Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Maguire is the owner of a management consulting firm and is enjoying his escape from the cold up north for the sunshine down south.

“My wife and I have a place in Hollywood, and we like to come here in the winter time. It’s 30 degrees and sleeting back home, and when you’re from Ohio, just being on the beach here is so amazing,” said Maguire.

While his biggest poker accomplishment is a 49th-place finish in the Seniors event at the 2016 World Series of Poker for $9,716, Maguire felt that tonight’s victory was more challenging.

“This was one of the toughest tournaments I’ve been in. Just winning this 76-person tournament felt harder than finishing top 50 out of 4,500 during the summer. There were a lot of good and seasoned players here who knew what they were doing, and fortunately things went my way in the end.”

While Maguire has to make a quick trip back to Cincinnati next week, he plans on returning to the Seminole Hard Rock for events later in the series.
