Hollywood, Fla. (January 21, 2017) – Event 8 of the 2017 Lucky Hearts Poker Open, a $570 Six-Max Pot Limit Omaha (Single Re-Entry), drew 49 entries and generated a prize pool of $24,500. After about 10 hours of play, Seminole Hard Rock regular Michael Newman was declared the winner after the final two players reached a deal, with Newman holding the chip lead.
For Newman, it marked his eighth tournament victory at the Seminole Hard Rock and third straight major series earning a trophy. At the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in August, Newman won a $570 No Limit Hold’em event for $17,579. In November at the Rock N Roll Poker Open , Newman took down a $360 Pot Limit Omaha event for $7,740. For his victory tonight, Newman collected $7,473. His total career tournament winnings is now nearly $260,000. Coincidentally, this was only Newman’s third PLO tournament and he’s cashed in all three, with two victories.
“I just ran good. That’s what PLO is to me,” said Newman after his win. “I was able to get chips and my hands held, that’s about it. I’m nothing special at PLO, but in poker there is a lot of luck involved, and I was lucky in this one.”
Having already bagged an above-average stack in the WPTDeepstacks Main Event, Newman felt like giving it a go in the PLO today, having won back in November. When the unofficial final table of seven players was reached, a lengthy bubble ensued that tested the patience of the remaining players.
“We were on the bubble for about 2 hours, and everyone was playing pretty tight. I got it in bad for my stack, but got lucky, and once the bubble went, everybody started loosening up. By the time we got heads up I was pretty tired, so I didn’t mind making a deal. Want to get some sleep for Day 2 tomorrow. That’s the one I really want to win.”
