Event 14: Ben Yu Arrives, Leaves

$570 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 9: 400/800 with a 100 Ante
Entries: 274

Michael Laake

Ben Yu was one of the most recent entries into the field after the break, joining a table that contains SHRP Team members Michael Laake and Stewart Newman. Four hands later, it was all over for Yu.

The hand in question began with Laake opening to 1,600 second to act, and Yu defended his big blind to go heads-up to the flop. Both players checked through the Tc9h6h flop, and the turn was the Ah. Yu checked, Laake bet 2,000, and Yu called.

The river was the Kd, and Yu checked again. Laake bet 3,000, Yu check-raised all in for his last 8,000, and Laake quickly called to put him at risk.

Yu showed KsTh for two pair, but Laake’s AsKc made a better two pair, earning him the pot and sending Yu to the rail in short order.

Michael Laake – 37,000 (46 bb)
Ben Yu – Eliminated

Event 14: About 250

Matt Stout

Event 14 surpassed its $50,000 guaranteed prize pool in the first hour, doubled it after the first break, and chasing down 300 entries to triple it by the time registration closes at 4:30pm.

More players are waking and making their way to the ballroom including Seminole Hard Rock Poker team member Matt Stout.

Event 14: Yunis Sporting Huge Stack

$570 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 4: 150/300 with a 50 Ante
Entries: 225

Nick Yunis

Players are back in their seats after the first break and it’s pretty obvious who’s the big stacker in the room right now. Nick Yunis is sitting at a table near the door and everyone could see his +80K stack coming back with more than double the amount of his next closest competitor.

Yunis is Chile’s #1 ranked player per the Global Poker Index and we first had a glimpse of his skill when he won the inaugural Charity Series of Poker event held here during the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open. He flashed even more talent with a fifth place finish for $134K in last year’s Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $25K High Roller.

Top stacks and some notables:

Nick Yunis – 83,825 (279 bb)
David Shmuel – 38,700 (129 bb)
Vinny Pahuja – 36,450 (122 bb)
Hlib Kovtumov – 31,275 (104 bb)

Olivier Busqet

Event 14 eased on past its $50,000 guaranteed prize pool in the first hour and more players are coming to the ballroom to pile money on top.

WPT Champions Club member Oliver Busquet has been a regular face over the last week and back again. He finished 23rd of  2,923 in the monster Event 9 and has more than $7.5 million in career earnings including his 2009 WPT Borgata Poker Open title and a handful of high rollers around the world.

Event 14: Big Early Crew

$570 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 2: 50/100
Entries: 90

John Holley

The entry count is climbing at a steady pace and the tournament is close to hitting the $50,000 Guarantee in the first hour. The tournament tripled up that number last year so we expect plenty more players to mix it up before registration is closed.

John Holley is a regular presence in the ballroom and more than a few of his dozens of tournament wins happened right here. In recent news, he earned his sixth WSOP Circuit ring in January and won a guitar trophy during the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open.

Event 14: Short-Handed and Big Money

$570 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 1: 25/50

Event 14 is the last tournament on the schedule before things really heat up tomorrow. After this, we have the High Roller and Super High Roller, the Championship and Tournament of Champions. But we still have plenty of tournaments for everyone of every bankroll.

But Event 14 is also the last chance to win your way into the $10,000 WPT Finale/$3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship freeroll.

This is the only main tournament running today and we expect a huge crowd to the $570 buy-in, six-handed, $50,000 Guarantee tournament. It drew more than 300 entries last year and it was won by Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi.

Tournament players will sit down to 12,000 starting stacks and play 30-minute levels from start to finish. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 4:30pm and players are limited to a single re-entry if their stack hits the felt. A dinner break is scheduled at 6:30pm and they will return to find a new champ.

They will get underway at noon and we’ll be here all along the way.
