The board ran out AhQd3h2d8c and Champlin flopped top two pair to double up. Champlin earned his second cash in as many days and is looking to make his second final table as well. He finished eighth in yesterday’s $1,100 no limit hold’em for $5,745.

$2,200 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 15: 1,200/2,400 with a 400 ante
Players Remaining: 35 of 226

Charlie Carrel opened the button to 5,300, and both blinds called to see a three-way flop.

It came KdKh5h. It checked to Carrel, who continued for 6,500, and only the small blind called. They both checked through the 5c turn, and the river was the Jd. The small blind led out for 12,000, and Carrel took pause.

“You know when you can’t beat anything…,” Carrel said, trailing off. He raised to either 32,000 or 37,000, and the small blind quickly folded, showing 4s4c. Carrel let out a satisfied cackle, and he tabled 6c7h as the dealer pushed him the pot.

Charlie Carrel – 165,000 (69 bb)

Event 18: Ken Aldridge Eliminated by Byron Kaverman

$2,200 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 13: 800/1,600 with a 200 ante
Players Remaining: 48 of 226

Daniel Weinman opened to 3,200 under the gun, and Byron Kaverman three-bet to 8,000 next to act. From the small blind, Ken Aldridge four-bet shoved for 24,400 total, and that was enough to fold Weinman out of the way. Kaverman called, though, putting Aldridge at risk.

Kaverman: KcTc
Aldridge: AsKd

The JhTh4h flop was bad news for Aldridge, and he let out a quiet, “Oh s***,” as he fell behind with two cards to come. The 5h turn brought the possibility of a chop into play, but the 3s river completed the board with a blank. Kaverman won the pot with a pair of tens, eliminating Aldridge in the process.

Byron Kaverman – 136,000 (85 bb)
Ken Aldridge – Eliminated

Event 18: Marc Kropf Eliminated by Joe McKeehen

$2,200 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold’em (Freeze-Out)
Level 12: 600/1,200 with a 200 ante
Players Remaining: 56 of 226

Joe McKeehen

While Connor Drinan was winning that previous pot, Marc Kropf chatted up the reporters from Seat 5.

“I’m about to double up,” Kropf said. “You should stick around.”

As he was saying those very words, action folded around to the blinds, where he was in the big with about 20,000 chips left. Joe McKeehen moved all in from the small in front of him, and Kropf instantly called all in to put himself at risk.

McKeehen: 4s4h
Kropf: JcJd

It looked for moment that Kropf was going to be a wizard of foreshadowing, but the proverbial poker gods had other ideas.

The 6s4d3c flop gave McKeehen a big lead with a set of fours, and the 4c on the turn added insult to Kropf’s injury as McKeehen made quad fours. He was drawing dead to the Qh river, eliminated at the hands of McKeehen.

Joe McKeehen – 100,000 (83 bb)
Marc Kropf – Eliminated
