Ido Ashkenazi

Ido Ashkenazi is no stranger to Seminole events. He owns two titles here in Hollywood — one coming in a $570 tournament during the 2015 Showdown and another coming in last year’s $350 Everglades Poker Open headliner. In all, Ashkenazi owns more than $460,000 in earnings.

Despite recently doubling tablemate Asher Conniff, Ashkenazi is off to a hot start in Flight B of the Showdown opener with a stack of 95,000.

With each passing year comes another round of past Seminole Hard Rock Poker champions. Hundreds of pros and amateurs from the Florida area and beyond have laid claim to a title here at the Seminole Hard Rock. Many have returned and followed up their scores with another win. Among those in search of a second career title is Leo Peirano.

Peirano first tasted victory during the 2014 Showdown claiming the top spot in a $250 Pot Limit Omaha 8 or Better tournament. For the effort, Peirano earned $5,285 along with a trophy. Now, three years later, Peirano is jockeying for another win which is expected to be accompanied by a six-figure payday.

2016 WPTDeepStacks-Tampa champion Anthony Astarita

2016 WPTDeepStacks-Tampa Main Event champion Anthony Astarita just picked up a set and scooped the last roughly 11,500 chips of an unknown opponent. After the opponent plopped in a 5,000-chip bet, Astarita raised all-in wagering the last of the opponent’s stack. The opponent called off and the top pair was no good.

 

Astarita’s stack grew to roughly 35,000 and he’s off to a solid start here in Hollywood.

Event 1 Flight B: Anthony March Pays it Backward

Anthony March

Anthony March has been on a poker heater lately and the big winner is the Pay it Backward Foundation. March, a CEO, carded a deep run at the Aussie Millions and then headed Stateside where he finished seventh in the Seminole Immokalee Poker Challenge Main Event for $8,000. True to his word, March donated his profits to charity.

March is back on the felt here in Flight B of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown opener and looks to earn some additional cash for the less fortunate.

Event 1 Flight A: Dolofan Bags Big

With ten minutes remaining in the day, tournament staff paused the clock and announced four more hands before bagging up.

When it was done, SHRP regular George Dolofan put the biggest stack in a bag and his 260,500 leads the way. Also advancing to Day 2 were Jacquelyn Scott (213,000), David Wolfe (197,000), Elliott Zaydman (126,500), and SHRP team member Jessica Dawley (71,500).

After a modest start, the field has more than doubled in the first level of the night. The clock reads 159 entries at the beginning of Level 2 putting the combined count at just under 600.

Among those in the early Flight B action are Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah. Maddah, a fixture at any Seminole Hard Rock Poker series, made the trek across the state and plans to spend the next three weeks with us here in South Florida.
