Jon Brody

The player in the cutoff moved all in for about 23,000, and the button re-shoved for around 70,000 total. In the big blind, Jon Brody woke up with an easy decision, and he quickly called all in for 37,000 to put himself at risk, too.

Cutoff: KhTc
Button: 6d6c
Brody: AsAd

The board ran out AcKd4c3d6h, and Brody flopped top set to drag the big pot.

Jon Brody – 103,000

Event 1 Flight B: Francis Margaglione vs. Alex Haber

Level 12: 800/1,600 with a 200 ante
Flight B Entries: 296
Players Remaining: 108

Francis Margaglione is a South Florida local and a familiar face at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood. He’s won three trophies in this building — two in 2015 and one in 2016 — to form part of a small group of three-time winners. He was one of the first players to build a big stack this evening, but the recent levels have eaten away at his gains.

In the most recent pot, Margaglione got a few back. He opened to 4,000 under the gun, Alex Haber called from the small blind, and the big blind defended to create three-way action.

The flop was Kh8c3s, and it checked to Margaglione. He bet 7,000, drawing two quick folds and winning the pot with no further resistance. He flashed AhKs as he collected the chips.

“Pocket nines,” Haber said. The Jamaican grinder is another who’s typically in attendance when the tournaments come to Hollywood. This week marks the one-year anniversary of his lone victory at this venue; Haber took down Event #11 at last year’s SHRPO.

Although he dropped that pot, Haber has leapfrogged Margaglione on the leaderboard.

Francis Margaglione – 58,000
Alex Haber – 130,000

Level 11: 600/1,200 with a 200 ante
Flight B Entries: 296
Players Remaining: 135

Marcus Stein’s table just broke, and he passed by the media table while he was relocating. “You know how the last couple hands before a table breaks are death? I just had queens, then kings.”

Stein won both pots, dispatching Stewart Newman and his pocket fives in the first, then a player with ace-king in the second. His stack has suddenly surged upward; he’s now among the current leaders, sitting with a six-figure count.

Marcus Stein – 105,000

Event 1 Flight B: Tim Reilly Back-Shoves, Doubles Up

Level 10: 500/1,000 with a 100 ante
Flight B Entries: 296
Players Remaining: 153

A player in early position limped in, as did Tim Reilly before the button raised to 4,500. The first limper called, but Reilly re-raised all in for 29,600 total. The button re-shoved with his big stack, coaxing a fold from the player in the middle and getting himself heads-up with Reilly.

Reilly: AdKd
Button: AcJc

The 8c3c2h flop was a good sweat, giving the button a flush draw to chase. The As turn and 7s river were the wrong shade of black for him, though, and Reilly’s kicker played to earn him a double-up.

Tim Reilly – 65,000

Marcus Stein

The player in the cutoff opened to 2,100, and Marcus Stein three-bet to 5,600 on the button. The blinds folded, and the cutoff four-bet to 13,600. Stein responded by moving all in for just over 30,000 total.

His opponent had a similar stack, and he pondered for a couple minutes before surrendering his cards into the muck.

Marcus Stein – 47,000

Stewart Newman

Seminole Hard Rock Poker’s Stewart Newman has just become entry number 289 into this Day 1B flight.

“Hey, Stewart Newman,” Jon Brody addressed him by his full name from the adjacent table. “Did you play this morning?”

Newman shook his head no. “First bullet.” He’s seated to the direct left of Jake Schwartz, who has been the subject of some Brody conversation, himself.

Brody and a tablemate have a side bet on Schwartz’s performance in this event. The other player thinks Schwartz will enter less than seven times and show a profit at the payout desk. Brody is betting the “don’t” for this one, though, figuring Schwartz will enter at least seven times and record a net loss for the event.

Event 1 Flight B: Marc Levy Eliminated by Shai Cohen

Marc Levy

Marc Levy was in position and heads-up against Shai Cohen on a Jd6d5s flop. The betting action wasn’t clear, but it put about 15,000 in the pot and left Levy with just 6,000 behind.

The turn was the 4s. Cohen checked from the big blind, and Levy put the last of his chips into the middle. Cohen called.

Cohen: Jh3h
Levy: 2d4d

Levy’s combo draw didn’t materialize on the 5c river, and he was eliminated.

Shai Cohen – 33,500
Marc Levy – Eliminated
