Event 1 Flight B: Scott Zakheim Starts Off Evening With a Knockout

$570 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 2: 50/100
Total Entries: 168

Scott Zakheim

On a flop of Tc9s8d, there is about 5,000 in the pot already with Scott Zakheim in the big blind and heads-up with the player on the button.

Zakheim bets 2,150 and the button moves all in for about 12,000. Zakheim calls. Zakheim tables KsKh and needs to dodge a lot of cards against the button’s Th7h.

The turn is the Ad and the river is the Kc. Zakheim dodges everything and rivers a set to win the pot and send an opponent to the rail.

Scott Zakheim – 29,500

$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 14: 1,200/2,400 with a 300 ante
Flight A Players Remaining: 90 of 395

Aaron Massey gets all in preflop for his last 46,200 from the cutoff against the player in the small blind.

Massey shows  AsAc and is in the lead against the small blind’s 6d6h.

The board runs out KcTh9d8c2c and Massey’s aces hold up to double the amount of chips he currently has.

“Nice hand, Aaron,” says Jon Borenstein.

“It was a very timely,” says Massey.

Aaron Massey – 100,400

Seniors: Dennis Johnson Leads at Dinner

Level 13: 1,000/2,000 with a 300 ante

Dennis Johnson

Seniors Event players took off on their 40-minute dinner break after Level 12 and they are on their way back to their seats. Only 30 players remain with 23 getting paid, it should move right along from this point forward.

Dennis Johnson leads the field with Harvey Freedman and Allan Coumel rounding out the stacks over 100,000.

  1. Dennis Johnson – 135,000 (68 bb)
  2. Harvey Freedman – 100,000 (50 bb)
  3. Allan Coumel – 100,000 (50 bb)
  4. Jacobo Fernandez – 87,000 (44 bb)

Event 1 Flight A: Aaron Massey Sends One Out

$570 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Level 13: 1,000/2,000 with a 300 ante
Flight A Players Remaining: 117 of 395

Aaron Massey

The field continues to shrink and Aaron Massey helped get it shorter. He had a short stack player all in and his Ah9c held against KsQc on the 9d7s2h7c6s board.

That was a good hand for Massey but he missed a 70,000 pot a few hands earlier. As it was retold through story and pictures at the table, Massey had Scott Levitt all in with KsKh versus ThTd. The all spade 7s6s4s flop reduced Levitt’s outs to one with Massey holding a spade. The 5s turn filled Massey’s flush leaving Levitt with two outs on the river for a chop. The 8s river was the deal to put a straight flush on the board to chop the pot.

Borenstein has some big results, including a WPT500 title last summer in Las Vegas, but he’s still waiting for his first SHRP title. He has a few close calls including a seventh-place finish in the inaugural $2,650 Freeze-Out Big 4 SHRPO event and a third-place finish in Event 1 during last year’s Showdown series but he’s still waiting on that SHRP winner’s photo.
