The bubble could have lasted a long time with the deep stacks but instead, it only took one hand to settle the matter.

Matthew Zarcadoolas opened to 16,000 from under the gun, an opponent moved all in for 37,000 from the big blind, and Zarcadoolas called. Then they had to wait for the action to finish on the rest of the tables.

The short stacked player was ahead for the double but needed to fade the two live cards of Zarcadoolas. The flop was safe but Zarcadoolas paired his jack on the turn to take the lead. The river finished with to give Zarcadoolas the hand and put the field in the money.

With the clock ticking down towards the second break, they lost a player to leave 51 in the field with 50 getting paid.

Tournament staff paused the clock to begin playing hand-for-hand until one player was eliminated. Two minutes come off the clock for each hand and they will take the break if bubble play gets that far.

Action slowed to a crawl with the money bubble getting close and the stacks staying deep. The field is still two eliminations away from bubble play and another from the money.

Paul Domb is still grinding and the only player remaining with a chance for a second May Deep Stack Poker Series Main Event win. He is the defending champion after taking the title in 2019 for $58K in a final table deal.

Meanwhile, James Carroll is taking advantage of the bubble and moved his stack up to 1,451,000. We caught the end of him taking adding another 230K with on a board against Josh Mountain.

Action at Table 7 went big after the break with some swings. The end of the string was Shawn Mohamed getting his stack in the middle after a raise, Levy Molina shipped in from the small blind, and Josh Mountain moved in over the top from the big to get the OG raiser out of the hand.

After getting the main pot and side pot settled, Mohamed had the shortest stack and Mountain had Molina covered. The board ran out and Mohamed’s queens held for the triple up while Mountain’s pair of jacks gave him a 100K+ rebate from Molina.

Before any of that happened, James Carroll found his way to the top of the counts when he crossed over a million as Mountain dropped back.

The first break is complete, the money bubble is on the horizon, and Josh Mountain extended his lead over the last few minutes of Level 16.

Josh Mountain isn’t the only player having a really good start to their Sunday, Paul Chang is piling up. After coming back for Day 2 with 104,000 in his bag, Chang is now up to 865,000 after two hours of work. Mark Guariglia is also trending in the upward direction with 675,000.

Six of the eight players that start on Table 7 had a bit of a battle ahead of them. Returning chip leader was sitting Levy Molina was setting in the 8-seat and third-best stack Josh Mountain was sitting in the 1-seat.

Of the two, Mountain has made the most of his stack this afternoon and was the first player over 1,000,000 for the tournament. His stack was 1,015,000 at the time of counting while Molina was still hovering around his Day 2 starting stack.

Registration remained open until the start of Day 2, an interesting twist on the standard tournament structure. We had 18 players slide in with the maximum late registration to start with 13 bigs and a dream.
