Flight A is crawling its way to a conclusion with 108 players still in the mix and 56 moving on. They still have a little ways to go before they can lock up a cash.

Martin Ryan is moving up his stack and the nine-time WSOP Circuit winner sits behind 195,500. Two of Ryan’s WSOPC rings came at our sister property up the road at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. On top of those two rings, Ryan also made six other final tables there including two runner-up finishes.

Players are back in their seats after another break while the black chips were colored out of play. There are 144 players remaining with action continuing until only 56 remain.

We have a new leader in the room as SHRP regular David Vurgait climbed to 236,500. The second biggest stack belongs to an empty seat at the moment, Ryan Hogan sitting next to a stack worth 229,500 and no one playing it before the break and not yet after. Jeff Silverstein continued to push his stack higher and sits with 205,500.

Level 10:  600/1,200 with a 1,200 ante
Day 1A Players Remaining:  225 of 555

Registration closed for the opening flight of the opening tournament on the RRPO schedule. And it was huge.

The tournament drew 555 entries for the biggest opening flight of this tournament. We began running the RRPO opening $1,000,000 guarantee tournament in 2016 and it drew a state record 5,018 entries.

That tournament had 403 entries in Flight A and today we blasted it to set up a huge first weekend of the series.

2021 RRPO – 555 entries (TBD total)
2016 RRPO – 403 entries (5,018 total)
2018 RRPO – 341 entries (4,558 total)
2019 RRPO – 400 entries (4,699 total)

Flight A will continue into the evening and come to an end when 56 players remain to advance to Day 2 on Sunday in the money.

Cards are back in the air for Flight A with an unofficial 555 entries in the field. Tournament staff are running the numbers and we will post the official count when it is available.

We found two huge stacks very close to each other but at separate tables. Lonnie Caldwell has the biggest stack in the room with 184,000 at Table 17 and Jeff Silverstein has 172,400 at Table 9 nextdoor.

Event 1 Flight A: Last Level to Register

$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 8:  400/800 with a 800 ante
Day 1A Entries:  544

Flight A reached Level 8 and that means time is running out if you want to book an early seat for Day 2 on Sunday. The field cruised past 500 entries and will tease 600 in the next 30 minutes. It won’t get there but it will be fun to watch.

Once Level 8 comes to an end at 2:15 pm, they will take a 15-minute break and we will close registration when they return.

Level 7:  300/600 with a 600 ante
Day 1A Entries:  489

Daniel Pearlman (left) and Raminder Singh (right)

Flight A is very close to pushing the entry count over 500 and it should get there easily with more than an hour remaining to get in the game. That is a huge start to the series and way above what we’ve seen in the past for the start of this tournament.

More friends showed up to take part including Daniel Pearlman, seven-time SHRP Hollywood champ Raminder Singh, and Tampa regular Walter Rossi.

Event 1 Flight A: Eric Piderit Up Big

$400 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 5:  200/400 with a 400 ante
Day 1A Entries:  442

Eric Piderit

Nobody was running away with a monster stack after the first four levels but Eric Piderit was doing his best. He caught a big hand before the break with AdKd then got his stack in the middle against AcAh and TdTc.

It wasn’t looking great for the SHRP regular but he flopped trip kings on the KhKs3s board and turned quads on the Kc turn. That was good enough to give him a stack worth 69,200 at the break.

Level 4:  200/300 with a 300 ante
Day 1A Entries:  419

Level 4 has come to an end and tournament staff sent Event 1 players on the first break. They have 15 minutes to enjoy the new lounge area outside the Grand Ballroom or grab a bite to eat.

The 419 entries so far already make this the biggest opening flight of this tournament with four more levels to registration.

Level 4:  200/300 with a 300 ante
Day 1A Entries:  399

Shawn Mohamed

Flight A is close to topping 400 entries starting Level 4, a huge turnout that is going to set a record for the biggest opening flight of this tournament. And it won’t be close.

That means we’re seeing a lot more friendly faces back in the Grand Ballroom including Shawn Mohamed, Martin Ryan, Eric Piderit, David Albertson Michael Tait, Nancy Thomas, and Nancy Birnbaum.

They will play out Level 4 before enjoying the first break of the day.
